I agree with Fool on the first sentence! Coz if you wanna get a good position in a company, they look at portfolio.. Now more and more Poly students are continuing studies to Universities to get a degree. You don't see that often in the past though. that's coz the society now is more "high". You'll lose out greatly if everyone has a Degree but you only have a Diploma.

So... Just let him pursue his studies! It's good that he has the interest to study!

I think i forgot to state why i didnt think he should continue studying
the way he did ITE was just scrapping through.
every 3 days he will skip 1 to play game.
every 5 days, 2 days late.

u think he'll change for that cert? he probably wont. even if he wanted to, the games will change him again.
his results were miserable. my O lvl cert looked better even when i didnt study.

he wont be progressing, he will be even lazier. End up he'll either repeat or give up mid-way. he told me he reali hates studying, so studyin, is not wad he REALI wants, its all for that cert.

In school, ur parents will provide u with the money, allowance and all. he'll just continue this entire rubbish over and over again. I've told him his ITE cert is as good as a white sheet wif scribbles. He needs capability to work out something, or at least be hardworkin.

shrugs. i dunoe how.it is THESE people, who thinks they have all the time in the world to keep studyin. i figured its his future.

anyway i told him,
my mom can employ him to be my housekeeper if he wants. :shifty3:

hmm actually my case is abit similar to your bf's but the diff is just that i'm willing to study hard for myself la. i initially thought of taking Os this yr which will be my third time as a backup plan just in case all my DAE application choices in poly are unsuccessful..then after this yr's Os, if i can qualify for JC, then i go to JC and make sure i mug hard for A lvl. then i calculated that by the time i finished my university, i will be like 27 years old which i think is quite old le. but my mum suggested that i look into other options instead as she thinks taking Os for third time is a waste of time and not worth it as it may be hard for me to be able to find a good job in future by the time i graduated from uni at 27 yrs old. i wonder how important does age really determines one's employability or is it the cert that determine one's employability?

If he do that he will just waste his life off. From what i can see the best way is to work and do part time study, SIM is a good place though.

This is the kind of misconception that only works in ur parents' time...in the current context, the result of this conception is getting retrenched and den driving taxi or dish washer when old...

U in Secondary school now ? doesnt sound like it.
I m going to year 3 now in poly, meaning coming 19 this year. hmm. u should get dipolma at 20 years old that year. due to term starts in april and end in april (after holiday) as well.

Hmm. Prolly u can ask him not to take Higher Nitec if he is able to go straight to poly. My classmate went to ITE, NS and now in poly. currently going 24 this year. grad next year same as me. at 25, hmm. it wouldnt be that bad. If u have good grades and thus able to find a job.

Well. or alternatively, u could ask him to take up studies part time. and start to work full time. IT SUPER TIRING but at the end of it the person doing that will surely benefit. Working experience and also a diploma.

2 years of NS is a must for, no way to escape, slighty at a disadvantage but a guy with NS completed will get slighty higher pay than 1 not. so there is some sort of compensation.

personally i tot diploma wouldnt have much future too. taking my dip now but yea thats wat i tot. Decided to go Uni after my NS. depending on financial income, i might or might not take it up as full time. but definitely i will take go Uni.

If he have the wish to study, let him go for it, nv discourage him, it will surely help him alooooot then not have a dip, advice him instead. even tho u may be higher educated and completes much earlier, happiness is for 2 to clap. =D

maybe sec 5 and with a retain ?
