Default NO FUTURE?

Recently i thought of my future cause my second year is approaching after the 4-5 mth holidays i'm having now.
apparently, if nothin goes wrong, 3 years later, at 19 years old i will get my diploma, at 20, bachelor of arts, and at 21, masters of arts. IF NOTHIN GOES WRONG.

den i look at my bf, which is pissing me off,
he is 21, in ITE, normal ite, just graduated, gonna go army,
by the time he come out from army, he is about 23+
he says he is considering poly, but needs to get to higher nitec first
higher nitec is 2 years, means 25 when he finish,
poly is 3 years, 28 when he finish

his friends around him are all lidat..

wads wrong?! is the future brighter lidat?!!!!

personally i feel its pretty pointless. because wad if he never gets to poly?!
or
around 28-29 den finish poly come out and work?!
aint it like super duper pointless? nearly 30 and just finish sch,
den u work for another 30 years n retire?!

i quarrel mani times wif him bcoz of this, so much until i gave up, he can go sweep the floor for all i care.

anybody 27 28 liao still studyin?
can u tell me how its like?
is it a struggle?
to the others, dont u think as a man, aint it better to start workin earlier, coz the time u wasted to go study, u could have gotten a job, and have experience, and learnt the things school never could teach.

:confused2:

SG FTW!

yeah i agree. having qualifications isnt the only key in getting a decent job. youth is a bonus to many companies, and youth isn't what everyone has. so don't squander it..

I am 20 this year, and I have a 30 years old classmate.

Anyway, guys have to pass through 2 years of NS which girls dont have to. Which made us lose out quite abit. But generation are changing, it no longer like the past where our parents or grandparents age where they start working at very early age.

It also depends on the person wanna work hard or not. My brother who was from Normal tech, went to ITE, then went to poly. Now at his age of 22, he just got his diploma. And he is going in NS soon.

eh, i think, if ur bf can handle, make him study and work at the sametime =X thats wad i planning to do after my NS, which, i will be enlisting in 4 - 6 months time

NS 2 years really make us guys lose out lah, that i agree, i rather study and work at the sametime den send my time in camp sweating and learning commands like turn left turn right, yes sir no sir -.- but no choice

back to the study+working... its so far the best choice i can find for myself after my NS loh, in ur bf case the dip cert will let him be more qualified in many things la, den working will oso let him gain experience the sametime, but will take up alot of your two sweet sweet together time =X

older people study not really THAT less, theres a saying its never too old to learn... so... hm... up to ur bf? see if study + work he can handle anot

btw when i say work + study, i meant full time working, part time studying, the grad cert will still be the same

Look at another angle
If guys from ITE gets into polytechnics and then again get into University. 17 + 2(ITE) + 3(POLY) + 2(NS) + 4(UNI) = 28 also. So i don't really see a difference in getting a basic requirement. A university is a basic entry to getting a good job and a good promotion faster and easy. Diploma is just a stepping stone which i feel he should have. Age shouldn't be a factor. Though alot of people feel that cert is not everything but how many people out there is as creative as our Creative Director, Mr Sim. It takes alot of energy and drive to make it out big in life. So i feel he should cont'd his studies.

And as a girlfriend, i feel you should give him the necessary support instead. No offence taken. But maybe you should ask him is that the decision he wants

Agree. I guess guys lose out mainly on the NS thingy. I'm coming out of NS in Sep, as a 22 year old with only a diploma. If nothing goes wrong, I would be getting my bachelor degree before I reach 24.

Of course qualification is not everything. Experience is important and most important, the drive and attitude to improve oneself is essential too.

Have a good heart to heart talk with your boyfriend. Let him know that you are looking forward to a brighter future together. Be tactful when you bring this matter up. We guys are kinda egoistic and it DEFINITELY would hurt if you phrase your sentence a little off. =/

Last but not least, give him your encouragement. =)

My take:

Future doesnt depend on qualification. This is especially true when you have something you wanna acomplish in your mind. Like be a sportsman, start a business etc.

No matter what your bf's decision is, my only question is, what does he wanna be in future. If he doesnt know...no route can get him there. I started being serious about my life after I finish ITE.

However, bear this in mind, if he does know what he wanna be and his route requires a dip, by all means encourage him. the only difference between bright future and foggy vision is this...inability to understand what you really want.

Lastly, until we understand the real meaning of education....all the certs are pretty much useless. :biggrin4:

wad if ur JUST the kind that fails everytime? sorry i not sayin u hor. dun angry.
knowing the time taken to get a dip cert is like 3-4 years More than others.
wont it be like waste time lidat, ppl already out there gainin experience, somehow, these days u flip newspapers, find job u can see..
certificate not everything, china has like dunoe how mani uni grads, so mani no jobs, sg here also, these days Uni grads also haf difficulty finding jobs, [mum says i dip go out will sweep floor.lol]
i have a friend, HIS friend too, 26+ i think, uni grad, had SO DAMM MUCH difficulty finding job, pay too low, no experience. its alot of trouble honestly.

my cousin too, 30+ he's still doin his doctorate or something in UK, the thing is, he's STILL depending on his mom n all to send money and all.
i think the money he owes his mum he work until die also cant return bahs.

this thing is very irony, but i feel, Good education not equals to Good certificate, good certificate no equals to good prospects.

SG FTW!

HE IS THIS KIND, maybe onli by-passers sees the clearest.

i've asked him wad he wants before, apprently, a stable payin job.
-.- wad a man, no dreams, NOTHIN. and talk about studyin...
