News of bird flu ban doesn't scare us, say S'poreans THE bird flu ban in the Malaysian state of Selangor following the discovery of the H5N1 virus there does not seem to scare Singaporeans.
Even though chicken and eggs from Selangor will no longer be imported, Singaporeans whom The Straits Times spoke to seem adamant that there will be no major change in the price and availability of eggs and poultry here.
Vendors have said that the percentage of imports from Selangor is negligible and prices would probably not rise.
Consumers have also said that since chicken and eggs remain an important part of their daily diet, they will still continue to buy these items even if prices go up.
Proprietor of the Ken Specialty Poultry shop said his sales for chicken meat will not be affected that much.
'Anyway, chicken meat is already the cheapest among all the meat,' he added.
