What a sight for sore eyes and for lifting of spirits, as rainbow sightings were made in the early evening of 1 January 2007, seemingly to usher in the new year with blessings and auguries of great things to come.

Many STOMP contributors from all over the island hastened out of their homes to catch this pretty sight, like Leonard Lee, who calls this a “: A fitting start to a new year as the clouds cleared and gave way to a brilliant rainbow over the west of Singapore.” He took the picture above to share it with the rest of STOMP readers.

Fresh graduate Tan Yin Yin, 19, who told STOMP she “excitedly told neighbours to come out to take pictures of two rainbows” she saw at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 did so as well after she saw two, one clear and the other, fainter, in the sky.





Her neighbours who lived along her street gamely joined in the fun, whipping out their cameras to capture the gorgeous sight.

Elsewhere, an elated Peter Lim, 39, was “elated and filled with a sense of hope” when he spotted the rainbow over his Summerdale home. In his email to STOMP, the accountant said:



“The rainbow was first mentioned in the Bible during the days of Noah. After the great flood destroyed the earth, God sent a rainbow as a promise that the earth will never be destroyed by a flood again.”



He continues:

“What a re-assuring sign on this very first day of the new year: that no matter what may happen, EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT!”

Chief engineer Jason Chan, who was over at Teck Whye Lane, told STOMP “it must be a good and lucky year ahead. It is a rare scene on New Year's day.”





Janice, 31, felt she was one "lucky" soul, being able to catch this "unique" sight.



She was going for dinner, and considers herself fortunate as she was able to see this double rainbow on New Year's Day, and considers this a sign of good things to come.

Haha. Thanks for this thread Violette.

I was feeling so depressed all of a sudden. Thanks for the chance for me to catch a glimpse of the rainbows on New Year Day. I was sick on New Year Day. Couldn't go anywhere. Haha...

Now I feel slightly happier. Thanks again.

i never had the chance to see the beautiful rainbow but never mind i can see from the picturess.. hopefully this year will be a brand new start without any disasters..

SEEING DOUBLE

AFTER the night skies over the Marina Bay area were lit up by man-made fireworks, it was the turn of Mother Nature to brighten up New Year's Day.



And what better way than bless Singapore with a double rainbow.

Photojournalist Kelvin Chng captured the heavenly sight as punters made their way to the Kranji Turf Club wondering whether a new year would bring them luck.

A double rainbow includes a second, fainter arc with colours in the opposite order, that is, with violet on the outside and red on the inside.
