A NEW state-of-the-art simulator to help soldiers sharpen their weaponry skills was officially launched by Second Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on Friday, adding to the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) range of training simulators.
Called the Infantry Gunnery and Tactical Simulator (IGTS), the equipment consists of two main components - the Support Weapons Simulator (SWS) and the Commander Tactical Trainer (CTT).
These two components will help commanders' hone their skills in battlefield planning, coordination and execution skills before they take part in actual field exercises.
The Support Weapons Simulator will also aid soldiers in acquiring and improving their gunnery skills, before heading out to proper outfield training.
With the use of this training simulator, commanders will be able to practise and improve their tactical decision-making abilities by playing out various warfare scenarios.
Since the beginning of 2008, the IGTS has been used by regulars, Full-time National Servicemen, and Operationally-Ready NSmen from the SAF's Infantry and Guards Unit.
A key component of 3rd Generation Army Training, simulation helps to optimise space and time required for training.
About 14,000 personnel are expected to use the IGTS for training each year.
