Since women % = men %, then -0.38x +56.6 = 0.38x + 43.4. Solve this equation and hence x = 17.39.

Add 17.4 yrs to 1968, ans shld be 1985. I think so.

y = 0.38x + 43.4 (women) - (2)
and that %(y) of men = women, find the year which satisfies this (x + 1968)

This is a simple algebraic problem. Since the question stated % of men & women are to be the same, then (1) = (2)

Hence:

-0.38x + 56.6 = 0.38x + 43.4

0.38x + 0.38x = 56.6 - 43.4

0.76x = 13.2

x = 13.2 / 0.76

x = 17.4

Hence the year which the same percent of men and women receive bachelor's degrees
= 1968 + 17
= 1985
