hi all, i'm thinking of getting a ds lite too. but i'm not sure what i should look out for, e.g. memory card etc. please help! thanks alot!

hooolahoop: For the NDSL, you may want to take note about the colour since white NDS tends to turn yellowish at the shoulder button. Make sure that you check the screen properly for dead pixels, both the upper and lower screen, and try the touch screen, make sure that they respond and are calibrated, if not, try to calibrate and see if the calibration problem is solved. The hinge is another problem, look out for small cracks and when you open your NDS to the first "lock"(not 180 degree), shake the NDSL a bit to see if the upper screen wobbles a lot as it shows how firm the upper screen is locked in place.

As for the flashcart, take note of the SDHC support, with the SDHC microSD support, microSDs above 2GB can be used. Also, read up on the rom compatibility rate of the flashcart, most flashcarts have 100% compatibility. Functions like folder organization , user-friendliness in your opinion, and connectivity with Wii may be a plus point.

dead pixels are those black spots on the screen right? and what do you mean by the touch screen calibrate?

i should be getting my ds lite soon (hopefully next week! whee) but i'm not sure what i should look out for in the package, e.g. what memory card (and what memory space i should get) and what basic accessories should i get as well.

also, what is the difference between an export set and a local set?

hooolahoop: I'm not sure what colour is a dead pixel, but as long as you see some spot which doesn't change colour and it appears to be stuck, it may be in a cluster, a line or just a dot, that shows that the screen is defective. Touch screen calibration means the screen would respond to the place you touch. If the touch screen isn't calibrated, the screen would not respond properly as it doesn't match the place you touch with the screen.

The NDSL package doesn't come with a flashcart, mean no R4 or CycloDS, nothing, just a slot for you to insert the original game cart. You would have to find the flashcart yourself. About the memory card to buy, it depends on your flashcart. If it support SDHC micoSDs, than most probably you would get a 4GB microSD. If its not SDHC supported, than the maximum you can use with the flashcart would be 2GB. You would want to get the maximum possible memory size for the flashcart as it allows you to store many games and other media stuff like music and movies. Basic accessories would include a screen protector and a crystal case/pouch.

There isn't a big difference between import and export sets on the console itself. However, the charger would be different and the availability of the waist strap. The warranty would also be another area of concern as export sets are not under the warranty of Maxsoft, the local distributor of NDS. So the shop selling you the console would warrant for it.

so what flashcard supports SDHC? it's supposed to be better in a sense because with SDHC i can do more things right (like put in more multimedia and play them)...

hooolahoop: Yes, a SDHC compatible flashcart would be a plus as it supports a memory card with a larger storage than a SDHC incompatible flashcart. With the larger memory, you can store more roms and media stuffs.

CycloDS and DSTT both supports SDHC microSDs, R4 doesn't.

so am i right to say that R4, DSTT and CycloDS have the same function, except that the latters have bigger memory space? i.e. DSTT is better (i heard that i can't get cyclods in singapore)
