Does anyone know if there will be an online live telecast of NDP2008? I won't be in SG but I really want to catch it...

NDP 2008 promises to be multi-sensory experience
By Heather Tan, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 08 July 2008 1732 hrs

SINGAPORE: The pre-parade segment at this year's National Day Parade is expected to be a multi-sensory experience, with performances on land, sea and air.

A group of wheelchair-bound performers will also be part of this segment, which has been named 'Sparkles of Singapore'.

Other highlights include a pyrotechnics symphony and a four-minute Bay Show with jet skis, stunt kites and powerboats.

The Singapore Armed Forces' Red Lions will also return with a military freefall display.

Set against the city skyline and coming together in a dazzling light, water and audio-visual spectacle, the parade proper will comprise of three acts - 'Search! Pioneers of a New Age', 'Sense! Artists of a New Landscape' and 'Spring! Creators of a New World'.

These will culminate in the grand finale, entitled 'Shine! Singapore Spirit'.

Viewers in Asia can catch Singapore's NDP 'live'
By Dominique Loh, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 16 July 2008 2149 hrs

SINGAPORE: The National Day Parade, which usually draws huge crowds in Singapore, will be telecast to viewers all over Asia for the first time.

On August 9, the parade will broadcast 'live' on Channel NewsAsia International, which is seen in over 20 territories.

This year, nearly 250,000 people applied for tickets to the big event, but only 27,000 lucky ones get to go to the parade.

Several events, such as Southeast Asia's first-ever Fire Festival, will be part of the National Day celebrations for the first time.

And for the second year, the parade will be held at the Marina Bay floating platform in the heart of Singapore's business district. The site also forms part of the inaugural Singapore Formula One night race circuit in September.

To rev up the action, a K1 Race Finals and a motorsport carnival will be held in the area as well.

Brigadier-General Tung Yui Fai, chairman of the executive committee for the National Day Parade 2008, said: "A lot of stakeholders were interested to partner with us and organisations are trying to organise events around the island at the same time.

"This year, we have 32,000 youths holding hands to recite the pledge together with President Nathan on the eve of National Day."

Overseas Singaporeans will be able to watch the parade, which has a potential viewership of 19 million, 'live' on Channel NewsAsia International.

Woon Tai Ho, managing director of MediaCorp News, said: "There will be a lot of resonance for Singaporeans living abroad. There's always a homesickness at the time of National Day, so this time, they can watch the parade 'live' as if they are in Singapore.

"It also allows sponsors and corporate citizens who really want to congratulate Singapore from abroad to use Channel NewsAsia International as a platform to do so."

And for those who are contemplating a trip here, the Singapore Fireworks Celebrations - a major highlight of the National Day Celebrations - will begin on August 22 this year.

Hi all
there's also a preview show of NDP on 2 Aug (Sat). I went to the NE Shows
and took some videos of these preludes to Singapore National Day 2008.

If you don't have tickets, you may still enjoy the parachuting, the F16 aerobatics
and the fireworks from the Marina Bay areas.

Toilet Roll Multiple road closures, tight security around Marina Bay for NDP

Multiple road closures, tight security around Marina Bay for NDP
By May Wong/Hoe Yeen Nie, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 06 August 2008 1748 hrs

SINGAPORE : Singaporeans can expect to face multiple road closures and heightened security around the Marina Bay area, where the National Day Parade will be held this Saturday.

Some of the roads affected will include Raffles Avenue, Republic Boulevard and Raffles Link.

Throngs of spectators will descend on Marina Bay to celebrate Singapore's 43rd birthday.

But they will have to go through strict security checks before they get onto the parade grounds.

Bags will be checked and bodies will be scanned. So the Police are reminding spectators to travel light with small bags, to speed up security checks.

Parade ticket holders are also not allowed to bring items like canned products, night sticks and toy guns which resemble an actual weapon.

Police also advise motorists not to stop along the East Coast Park Expressway on the Benjamin Sheares Bridge during the fireworks display.

That could cause congestion as well as accidents.

Police will also put up advisory signs on lamp posts and electronic Variable Message Signs at strategic locations to help motorists plan their journey.

And while it is impossible to avoid the crowds after the parade, there will be clearly marked routes out of the Marina Bay area.

Marshals will also be on hand to manage traffic flow.

The public is advised to avoid City Hall MRT station, and head to Raffles Place MRT station instead. - CNA/ms
