this question has been bugging me for a really long time... perhaps the links below can aid me in explaining my question...

apparently, these 2 girls posted several videos of themselves... i shall not comment on the value of their videos, since there really isnt much to talk about (ok i admit... i clicked the video because i was tricked by their looks... i'm a guy, what do you expect?!)

let's just hope that they are not singaporeans...

on the other hand, i see a lot, and i really mean A LOT (in caps and bold and underlined!) of our youngsters are doing similar stuff... perhaps not as dumb as making bimbo videos (oops i;m not referring to the 2 girls i mentioned above =P)

it seems to me that youngsters like to use their camera handphones to constantly (quite literally 'constantly') take photographs of themselves, wherever they go, whatever they're doing. browsing through blog sites and friendster and you can see for yourself...

of course, everyone has his rights to flaunt their good looks... girls especially... but isn't a little narcistic to flood your hanbdphones with you own photographs?

on the other hand, creating sex videos of themselves seems to be on the rise too... our 'tammy of ny*' and 'the almighty edison chen' are probably 2 of the many many 21st century people who enjoy home-made sex video, fresh from their handphones...

i don't know, but it seems to me that these are acts of narcissism (this is one hell of a word to spell!). and more importantly, narcissism (hell i took a few seconds to finish typing this word!) seems to be on the rise...

i would like to hear from everyone about this issue...

i hope i don't offend anyone by posting this thread... it's just something that's been bugging me for a long time, and i thought i might be able to get some answers by posting it... if you want to scold me, by all means pm me... but don't scold on thread, since it kind of wastes the space of the forum haha...

maybe its because of the fact that nowadays ANYONE can look like hollywood stars...
if u see the crowd in orchard road, u would think they're all somewhat celebrities...
i remember being a young girl and seeing pretty ppl and think how i wish i can be them

society now are more self concious of how they look, even guys...
i mean look around... last time oni pretty girls have fanciful hair...
now everyone oso can look like celebrities
even guys have funny funny hairstyles now...

human eyes are attracted to cute things...

yep... no harm in being self conscious... but i feel that it has 'evolved' to a state of narcissism (again i took quite a while to type this damn word), rather than self conscious...

accessibility might be a possible reason...

however, if people are utilising such accessibility (which i'm sure these products are produced for), then i wwouldn't have much to say... utilising as taking down images of real purposes, like group photographs, or sceneries... i mean photographs are taken for memorial sake right?

yet what i see is, people taking photographs of themselves, alone... what is the value then? storing memories of their youth? or storing memories of the moment when that strand of hair is positioned at that very spot on their head?

haha you lucky they didn't ask you to take scandal pictures with them....

anyway, i don't agree that this is called 'confidence'... it's more of a 'in love with their looks', rather than being confident of their looks...
if you have read Shakespeare's Twelveth Night, then you will understand what i mean... the main character Orsino is constantly whining about how his unrequited love affects him... just like these people, constantly taking photographs of themselves... but as the reader, we know that Orsino is but in love with the idea of love, rather than being in love, which is similar to these people, who are in love with themselves, rather than being confident...

hope i make sense? i'm just trying to convince myself that narcist cells aren't invading humankind haha...

maybe for the videos like those i posted, yes... only pretty people do it...

but for the photographs, i see even faggots worse looking than me (i see myself as ugly, but have basic resemblance of a human being) doing it! everywhere they go they take photographs of themselves...

guess human beings are indeed narcist, vain, superficial and hypocrite nowadays haha...
