Girl's skull cracked in
MYSTERY HAMMER ATTACK
Muar girl, 11, was on motorcycle with mum when man suddenly jumps on them
SHE had been looking forward to attending her school's graduation ceremony yesterday morning.
But 11-year-old Lin Kai Ying is lying unconscious in hospital with a cracked skull.
The Primary Five student of a school in Muar, Malaysia, was attacked by a hammer-wielding man while on her way to school with her mother, yesterday.
She was repeatedly struck on the head with a hammer, reported China Press.
Kai Ying and her mum, 42, had been on a motorcycle going towards her school at 7.15am when they were waylaid by a man wielding a hammer.
The mother, identified only as AhLing, said that the man suddenly jumped out in front of their motorcycle.
Ah Ling said: 'I lost my balance and we both fell off. The man then started waving the hammer at us.
'I sensed that we were in grave danger and quickly shouted for KaiYing to run as fast as she could.'
Ah Ling said they began running in opposite directions. But she fell down halfway and when she turned around to look for her daughter, she saw the man chasing Kai Ying.
She recalled: 'I saw him hit the back of her head with a hammer two to three times. KaiYing fell to the ground with blood oozing from her head.
'I shouted frantically for him to stop. Then suddenly, he turned towards me and wanted to attack me,' said Ah Ling.
However, after seeing some cars heading towards them, he fled.
GROAN IN PAIN
A passing motorist took Ah Ling and her daughter, who was half-unconcious and groaning in pain, to the hospital, said the report.
Ah Ling later went to the police station to lodge a report.
Kai Ying's father and her two elder sisters rushed to the hospital soon after.
They were all crying after seeing how badly Kai Ying was injured.
Kai Ying's father, Mr Lin Wen Fu, 53, told China Press that Kai Ying and her mother's belongings were not taken by the assailant.
Mr Lin said: 'I had given Kai Ying RM$100 ($43) to buy new textbooks for next year. The money was (still in) her school bag.
'I thought they were victims of a snatch theft, but the assailant went off without taking anything.'
Ah Ling told the police that she had not seen the assailant before.
'Kai Ying is only a child, why did he attack her so viciously?
'It was her last day of school for this year and she was looking forward to attending the graduation ceremony, but now, I don't even know if she will ever wake up.'
China Press reported that Muar's police chief went down to the hospital to visit Kai Ying yesterday.
He was told that the girl, who was unconscious, would be sent to Johor Baru later as her injury was serious.
A police spokesman said: 'We are still investigating as right now, we do not know the motive behind the attack.
'We urge members of the public who witnessed the incident or have information on the attacker to come forward.'
