You can sign in with your Windows Live ID or Passport account. Should be no problem if you have a MSN account.

Is this as Windows Vista Media Center? If not, does it tell you what will be the name for next-gen Media Center? I have not heard of anything on next-generation for Media Center OS.

Yeah...you may read the article here:
Microsoft seeks Fiji beta testers
Posted Apr 18th 2007 6:00PM by Brad Linder
Filed under: OS Updates, Video, Windows, Microsoft

Sure, Vista Media Center's only been officially available for a few months. But onwards and upwards. Microsoft is already prepping the next version of Windows Media Center, which may or may not be codenamed Fiji. And the company is looking for beta testers.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has had a track record of releasing new versions of Windows Media Center every year or two. While Windows Vista includes Media Center functionality, the company is expected to release the next version of Media Center before the next full Windows release. Fiji could be available in 2007 or 2008, while the next major operating system upgrade is slated for 2009.

In order to apply as for a beta account, you'll have to fill out a series of questions and basically prove that you've got the right stuff to test out a new system and provide constructive feedback. Those selected as testers will be notified by May 31st.

Thanks for sharing this with me. So Fiji is the codenamed for Vista Service Pack 1 right? I remembered this when it was mentioned somewhere before. So all beta tester testing for Vista Service Pack 1 is automatically included in the beta testing for Media Center? You can correct me if I am wrong. :biggrin4:

Hmm..some people say Fiji will take the form of Windows Vista Service Pack (SP) 1. Others believe it will be a full-fledged, but relatively minor, Windows release — more of a Vista R2. Microsoft won't comment publicly on the code name at all.

I believed that Fiji is much to be "Reloaded" version for Vista so it can be Vista R2. Just like the Service Pack 2 which is "reloaded" version for XP with huge improvement in security such as new Windows Firewall, Security Center and so on.

But I hope upcoming Vista SP1 will fix the "hard-to-use" navigation to shut down the computer from start menu just because when first-time use Vista, the icon being shown up directly from Start menu is mistook as "Shut Down" but it is "Hibernate" actually. Microsoft should have put Shut Down on front icon as direct click from start menu to shut down the computer. Sigh.
