Michelle Chia's countdown blooper - OOPS! She exposes 'granny pants'

IT'S a bad start to the New Year for poor Michelle Chia.
She has been named one of men magazine FHM's sexiest women.
Barely a minute after the countdown to 2008, this photo of the host-actress was posted on the ************ forum under the discussion title of 'Did you see it! Michelle Chia ZG!'
ZG refers to the Hokkien term zao gng, which means accidental exposure.
Michelle, 32, was hosting the Countdown 2008 party at VivoCity to usher in the New Year when the unfortunate incident took place.
She accidentally exposed her underclothing while jumping in excitement at the stroke of midnight.
The hem of her tiny gold dress flipped up, showing a pair of white underpants.
It was televised live on Channel 5.
However, Michelle later said she was also wearing other undies, including a pair of 'safety shorts'. Some netizens have taken to calling her underwear 'granny pants'.
The ************ post, which includes a slow-motion video clip of the slip-up, had attracted 14 pages of replies at last count.
The same photograph was also sent to online portal Stomp.
SICK AND INSENSITIVE
Apart from discussing what kind of underwear Michelle was wearing, netizens slammed the creator of the post for being insensitive.
OhMyGodMan replied to the Stomp post: 'The fellow who post (sic) this is really a Sick Chee ko pek... sick.. really sick.'
Michelle herself had not realised that her undies were visible until Lianhe Wanbao called her.
She told the paper that she was wearing two extra layers for protection - the safety shorts over her underwear and then the much-discussed undies over those.
She said: 'The stage was up high and the audience was below, so those who want to see (under the skirt) will see it. It's a matter of angle, I didn't expose myself.'
Still, she was peeved that the photographs were posted on the Internet.
Michelle said: 'If the netizens are so cruel, there's nothing I can do. I've already taken protective measures.'
The New Paper tried calling Michelle but she didn't answer our repeated calls.
However, her actor-boyfriend Shaun Chen told us that Michelle is trying to put the incident behind her.
He said: 'It's actually a small matter, she was wearing protection underneath. These people are just too 'curious'.'
But Shaun admitted that he was upset with the 'perverted and bored' netizens who have been discussing the accidental exposure online.
'I'm not going to stop her from wearing short skirts just because of this. It's really being blown out of proportion.'
Fellow host-actress Michelle Chong, who had performed alongside during the show, agreed.
She said: 'Tell people to get over it, they are just making a mountain out of nothing... There are worse things that can happen, you know.'
The 30-year-old was wearing jeans that night and added that she is seldom made to wear short skirts or dresses 'probably because I don't have nice legs'.
Even when she has to, she asks for a larger size so the hem is lower.
But she said protective measures like leggings and shorts are usually provided by the MediaCorp wardrobe department.
Host Jade Seah, another one of the performers for the night, counted herself lucky it didn't happen to her.
She was also in a short outfit, but it was a safe playsuit.
And though she was standing near Michelle, she didn't notice anything amiss during or after the show.
She said: 'It was such a long day and everybody just wished one another happy new year and went home.'
Jade, 24, who has a reputation for having the best legs at Caldecott Hill, said she wears black tights when she is in a short dress.
But she is usually more worried about low-cut tops than the hems of her dresses, for 'practical reasons', she said.
'People are just too free. I don't think it's very nice when it's obviously an accident (on Michelle's part),' added Jade.
