SINGAPORE: 50,000 more copies of the TODAY newspaper will hit newsstands from Tuesday, 1 April.
MediaCorp Press said this will increase the daily circulation to 300,000 copies.
Demand for the TODAY newspaper has been growing, and readers – including working adults – have been asking for more copies.
"If you come at a later time, all of them would have been distributed. So you really can't get a copy if you come late," one reader said.
Philip Koh, Managing Director, MediaCorp Press & Radio, said: "We've been getting feedback from the public that they want to read the paper but they can't get their hands on it. And frankly speaking, we can never print enough to satisfy the demand out there. There has been so much feedback for the paper."
To help meet demand, the paper recently went digital through MediaCorp's Easy Reader. Readers can download the free software and use it to stream the paper into their computers through the internet. They can then read the paper anywhere, anytime.
TODAY said their recently revamped weekend edition has been well-received, not just by readers but by advertisers as well, and advertising revenue has doubled since July 2007.
Advertisers like Samsung said the quality of TODAY has improved, but they hope the paper can be distributed at more locations such as office receptions, rather than just public places.
TODAY is a compact newspaper distributed free in Singapore from Mondays to Saturdays. Since its launch eight years ago, TODAY has a daily readership of over 580,000.
