Yet, this minor matter escalated into a road rage attack which left one man dead.
Malaysian Liu Jian Huang, 34, was killed after he was apparently run over several times by a pickup truck in Kuala Lumpur early yesterday morning.
According to Sentul Police, Mr Liu and four friends were driving from Jinjang towards the city centre at high speeds when they narrowly missed hitting a stationary lorry parked by the road, reported China Press.
One of the lanes was closed for road works when they swerved to avoid the lorry that reportedly belongs to one of the road workers.
HAD ARGUMENT
Sentul police said that after the near-accident, Mr Liu and his friends got out of their Honda Civic and argued with the workers.
Then, one of Mr Liu's friends reportedly used a parang and metal chain to smash the lorry's windshield.
This riled the workers, who called their friends for help.
Mr Liu and his friends tried to escape in their car.
But their vehicle was blocked by a Mitsubishi pickup driven by one of the workers' friends who had arrived at the scene by then.
Three of Mr Liu's friends managed to escape in the car, leaving Mr Liu and another friend Mr Ye Rui Sheng, 33, behind.
It was at this point that another Ford Ranger pickup appeared on the scene and headed towards Mr Liu and Mr Ye.
Mr Liu, the second son of a petrol station owner, was run down.
He collapsed in front of two shrines placed along a row of shophouses.
He died on the spot from severe injuries.
Mr Ye fractured two fingers on his right hand, as well as his left leg, and is in stable condition after being sent to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital.
CONFLICTING REPORTS
China Press also had a different version of the event.
It quoted an unnamed source saying that Mr Liu, Mr Ye and some friends were returning home from a karaoke session in a BMW and a Honda Civic when they met an accident while making a U-turn.
The labourers doing roadworks at that time reportedly laughed at the accident.
Mr Liu and his friends then apparently confronted them.
Sentul police are still carrying out investigations.
They said that based on MrLiu's injuries, they suspect that he was run over by a vehicle more than once.
They have arrested five men. A Mitsubishi pickup and a Ford pickup were also found near the scene.
