Man who banged wife's head against wall says:
She made me kill her
A TRACTOR driver claimed his wife provoked him into killing her.
And when she allegedly flung a religious book at him, he snapped. In his fury, he beat her to death.
The New Straits Times reported that Tegoh Aling, 48, an Orang Asli, claimed he was a victim of extreme provocation.
His lawyer, Imran Hadzalie Abdul Hamid, told High Court judicial commissioner P. Nallini that Tegoh's marriage to Madam Kachut Tenchit, 43, was already on the rocks.
Mr Imran told the court: 'He had discovered that she was having affairs with several men and moved out of their house in Dengkil and stayed in Kenaboi, Jelebu, Negri Sembilan.'
Said Mr Imran: 'On the day of the incident, Kachut had asked him to remove his things from their home. There was an argument and Tegoh was assaulted.'
HEATED ARGUMENT
In the heated argument that followed, Madam Kachut allegedly flung a religious book at him.
Mr Imran said it was at this juncture that Tegoh flew into a rage.
He pulled Madam Kachut's hair, knocked her down to the floor and hit her head several times against the wall. Tegoh also used a rattan stick and hit her on the neck.
And there was drama in the court too.
In his submission, Mr Imran raised his voice, demanding his client should be accorded a light sentence as it was a provocation of the highest order when Madam Kachut threw the book at him.
The judicial commissioner told Mr Imran to calm down, compose himself and not to shout.
There was a five-minute recess.
Tegoh pleaded guilty to an amended charge of culpable homicide committed in their house at about 7pm on 23 Aug 2003.
Tegoh has seven children with Madam Kachut and another six from a second marriage.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Laden submitted that although Tegoh was provoked, he should not have reacted in such a violent manner. He also said culpable homicide was a serious offence and the victim was his wife.
The case has been adjourned to 28 Sept for sentencing.
