Let's see, assuming the rule is majority must be English at the start :

Carson
Finnan (non-English) Carra Hobbs Arbeloa (non)

Pennant Mascherano (non) Gerrard Kewell (non)

Crouch Torres (non)

..compared to Man Utd :
Foster
Neville Brown Ferdinand Vidic (non)

Ronaldo (non) Scholes/Carrick Hargreaves Giggs (non)

Rooney Tevez (non)

You are right that Liverpool can still field a team but only just - what happens when there's injuries? I just hope Rafa bears the possibility of such a quota system in mind! He should get one English defender and one English midfielder this January!

Not sure whether Wenger is a genius, but he sure is fortunate that his bosses believe in him and gave him time - same goes for Ferguson.

English players cannot match European players - generally agree; what is puzzling is why then are English players more expensive?! Here is probably the biggest clue to the sad state of affairs of English football today - overhyped, over-paid and overpriced players; 'favoured' players who can do no wrong and whom the manager dare not drop.

Perhaps it is time for Britain to humble itself and propose to FIFA to let them play as Britain rather than England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland!

Yeah, 3-0 victory, very pleased with Liverpool away form this season, Gerrard silent e crowd with his trademark strike, a pity Torres didn't get his name on e scoresheet but he is a joy to watch lah budden next time if we ain't leading he got to convert those chances he miss today, Lucas full debut in e league and he is already looking like someone who has play a couple of yrs already, glad to see Kewell starts for e 1st time since the FA Cup final? Reina didn't had much to do. BRING ON FCP~

Yea hopefully they will have the passion to beat Porto and then, it is up to them to beat Marseille and not hope that other results favour them. Liverpool can do it!

Although the win over Newcastle was good, I cannot help but observe at least three players did not play well :
1) Kyut was really bad - he 'scored' because the ball hit his shin and went in!
2) Kewell was below his own standard - seem scared of tackling and being tackled
3) Sissoko was up not to standard - obviously trying hard but ...sigh!..

Lucas is very good but he needs to build his confidence.

He simply isn't really Liverpool class, we need more then just high work rate to win championship.

I remember his first game when he came on and made a tremendous difference to the team. He frightened the other team with his very positive and aggressive style! He was shooting at the slightest opportunity ... wow!

Wonder what happened?!!!!!!!!!

lol he 1st few games he alwys last to leave the pitch, go to every corners to applause e fans before going into e tunnel.

I think is playing style problem, Pool mostly attack with long balls, dont suit him la, he dont have e speed to get to e ball that's why he is alwys closing defenders down cuz they get e ball 1st.

Kuyt is a decent striker. His lack of confidence and lack of goals is causing him problems.

He is one of the most hard working strikers I had seen. Like what you posted, I agreed with you that Liverpool's current style of playing is not suitable for him.

I won't be surprise if he is sold in the near future.

Agree on his lack of confidence and that he is hard working, but disagree that Liverpool's style does not suit him. I think the style incompatibility is just what it looks like but the root cause is his self-belief.

If you look careful at how he plays - he seldom get into the box but plays around it. He seldom shoots but looks for players to pass to. He is aiming to assist and he has assisted in quite a number of goals - but that's not the point, is it? The poor guy is afraid to take the lead and go for goal! Compare or contrast him with Crouch - Crouch was told to be more selfish in the second half of his first season and he started to make very positive impact. Now he shoots or heads when he has an opportunity, and he even tries to make those opportunities. To his great credit, he also assist when others were in a better position to score - which is a sign of maturity.

I suspect Rafa doesn't like the idea of star players - he cannot deny Gerrard but he doesn't like it. He emphasizes team work, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

But he should play to the strength of his players and not stifle them by giving too much instruction to keep too closely to his tactics. Liverpool needs free flow, spontaneous footballing especially now when Liverpool has these type of players.

I think most of us expectation of Kuyt is quite high that's why we ain't pretty impress by him nowadays cause he is not scoring enough goals as a striker.

In the league this season,

Voronin - 591 mins, 3 goals 1 assist
Kuyt - 819 mins, 3 goals 2 assists

1 comes on a free transfer while the other costs 9.5m, that probably explain the criticising of our dutchman...
