Hate to disappoint you but the game is not this Saturday, it is Nov 24! The coming weekend is international weekend, featuring the European championship qualifiers.

I don't expect England to qualify - but that doesn't bother me.

What's important is for Liverpool to be more consistent from now on and really push for the EPL title!

LIVERPOOL FACING £15M ALONSO BATTLE
Xabi Alonso is a £15million target for Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool's 26-year-old midfielder - who has been out injured since the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in October is contracted to Liverpool until 2012.

But he has been picked out by Atletico coach Javier Aguirre, who wants him in place for next season.

The News of the World says Aguirre has ordered his sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch to work on the deal.

Alonso may not return from injury until the New Year.

But Aguirre said: "Alonso is a big player and very important to any team because he helps defenders and also links with the attack.

Although I think he has not been playing well lately, I would still feel very sad to see him go - I was also upset to see Luis Garcia go.

However if Rafa and his bosses cannot work things out, I think the whole spanish brigade may go!

Ya, i can imagine Arbeloa, Alonso, Reina and even Aurelio, Sissoko and Mascherano leaving but Torres shld be staying.

We need to talk to agents and sign players now. If we don’t we will lose targets and need to do something in the summer which would be far more expensive. Hopefully it will be resolved because we want the best for the club.

“That means to sign players like (Andriy) Voronin, or to sign players like the two options we have at this moment.”

Benitez traced the present impasse back to his most recent meeting with the American owners last month, and added: “It was really, really positive, but after this meeting it was a surprise to me that something changed. I tried to explain my ideas and they told me to keep focusing on the team because Rick Parry is in charge of buying and selling players, so okay, we will see.

“I’m sure Mr Hicks knows what I want. I have a very good squad and want to improve the squad. I didn’t talk about money – I was thinking about bringing money back in, we have brought £26million back this year.

“I don’t think the situation is serious but we do need to get it sorted soon.”

With heightened tension in the corridors of power at Anfield, Benitez made a pointed remark about the club’s fans by saying: “I am focusing on training and winning games for my supporters.”

Certainly, the prospect of Benitez being dismissed from his position has been met with an outcry from the majority of Liverpool supporters over the weekend.

Having lifted the European Cup in 2005, the FA Cup 12 months later and reached another Champions League final in May, the Spaniard has become a massively popular figure with the club’s followers.

Benitez’s name was chanted during the 3-0 victory at Newcastle United on Saturday, and a huge protest in support of the manager is being planned by fans at Wednesday’s Champions League game against Porto at Anfield.

Your views on the article?

1 of the player Benitez want is Kaladze, not sure whether is a free transfer or a 4m signing, he wanted to sign him to cover for our central defenders just in case someone get injured, nth wrong with it imo.

In fact, the BBC Football gossip column just posted the rumour that if Rafa gets sacked, there will be a player exodus!

Oh boy, if that happens, not only will our chances of winning the title be gone .. even finishing top 4 will become a problem this season! Hope these yankees won't play play with this club!

If Rafa really got sack, i hope the players will follow him, he took 3 years to build this team, and a new man comes in lead the team to e championship wif this crop of players, nobody will give benitez the credit he deserves, everyone will be saying how gd the new guy is, just took over and bought the long awaited title back to merseyside, etc.

We heard abt winning at any costs but if it involves dignity i rather wait another decade for a man to lead the side and win it together with the team.

I think to be manager of the club, he has to win e fans respect first, but looking at Mourinho's attitude, very hard to win over the fans.

He was sacked by Chelsea cuz he and Roman cant see things frm e same view, Roman don't want to provide e funds for Mourinho to get what he needs, the scenario is similar here, Benitez wants to move fast to secure signings when e Jan transfewr window opens but the 2 clowns want to wait until they go over in Dec to decides, by that time e scouted players might have agree term n conidtions with other team. and then rafa need to go for 2nd best again, when results not going their way, his fault again.

ps: Mourinho's release clause stated that he can't manage an English club this season

Rafa Benitez seeks a truce with American owners

RAFA BENITEZ is ready to hold out an olive branch to Liverpool’s owners – but his gesture of reconciliation may have come too late to save his job.

Though sources close to Tom Hicks and George Gillett insist no decision has been made to sack Benitez, the Americans have refused to deny speculation it is only a matter of time before the manager is forced out.

Despite the pressure , Benitez is still planning for the future and remains hopeful of landing the league title he knows Liverpool and the fans crave.

A source close to Benitez said: “Rafa loves it at Liverpool. He loves the people of the city, he loves the fans and he loves the club. All he wants is what’s best for the fans - he gets frustrated when he feels he’s not able to do that.

“But he is happy with Tom and George owning the club and he has enjoyed working with them since he came and he has no problem working with Rick (Parry) – all he wants is to be able to continue the job that he’s started so he can continue improving the squad in a bid to deliver the title he knows Tom, George and Rick want just as badly as he does.

“The manager has got a few transfers that he wants to get done, one in January and two Bosmans in the summer but it looks like he is going to miss out on the first one now.

“That frustrated him because the first one was a centre half, a position he feels we really need back-up in. The frustration stems from the fact that communication has been so difficult with everyone being so far apart and in different time zones. But the fans should be reassured Rafa has no plans of walking away. He loves it here and his family are settled on Merseyside.

“He always describes his children as ‘Scousers’ and that makes him really proud. And the fact that the fans have backed him so much only makes him want success even more for them. Even when he guided Valencia to their first Spanish league title in 31 years their fans did not sing his name but the Liverpool fans sing it every single game.

“Rafa only wants to work for Liverpool. It wasn’t that long ago that Rafa was thanking Tom, George and Rick for the work that they had done to bring Fernando Torres to Liverpool. He is still grateful for that and hopes that there has been no lasting damage done.”

True that Mo has an attitude, true that he has problem with bosses and true about his contract - BBC reported that he wants the English FA to make him an offer now. So, I don't think he is in the picture at all should the Americans dump Rafa.

I don't think the Americans will do that though. They are suckers for popularity and the way the fans are rallying for Rafa, these Americans will not want to be the 'bad guys' - unless they have attitudes like their president has!
