I think they would not make it pass the group stage either, they have to win all their matches in order to make it. With stevie blowing hot and cold. and rafa at the helms, I think they are not going to make it. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Their truimph in the CL in 2005 was due to Lady Luck's kisses (Not smiles) as they were dead and buried by HT. I believed that 90% or more Pool's punters and supporters alike did not expect them to come back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 and win the CL title that season especially against a team like AC Milan an Iltalian team where its league is known for its defensive tactics. The Uefa Cup, and 2 FA Cup victories against Arsenal and Hammers victory were so sweet lah. But the league cup defeat and last season CL very sad leh, play so well but never win T_T To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

I fact I think they are the Arsenal of old. not much flare. occasionally they might provide some excitement, however more often than not. it have been pretty boring. luck have been with them for some time, however for how long. They are no longer the "big" club they once were. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

We were master at crafting 1-0 wins and our defence were soild with Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon, Martin Keown, David Seaman
Arsenal of today is like the glodeTrotters of basketball or Brazil of the WC. Full of entertainment and attacking flair :love4: but sometime they frustrate their fans by wanting to score the "perfect" goal. Last season if the game get physical, they were "bullied" out of it. :cry3: This season, we are more adapted to those "physical" teams.:biggrin4:
Pool was the leading team, the one team that other teams want to beat back then. They were winning the then English Division One like Man Utd in the Mid 90's till now. John Barnes, Ian Rush, Graham Souness, Bruce Goblaar, Kenny Dalgish, Ronnie Weelan, Phil Neal, etc, are all good players but sadly now, they have maybe only a couple of really good players unlike those time when 99% of their players were household names and full international players.
They are considered one of the top 4 although they have not won the EPL title for many years. It is cos of their past history and the squad that they have now thats why they are consider one of the top 4 teams.
No one can denied the fact that they are the most successful team in England. Arsenal & Man Utd needs to do a lot of catching up in order to match Pool's past glories in term of titles and cups. Pool has also won the CL/EC 5 times? Man Utd twice, Arsenal & Chelsea has yet to register their first CL title. Nottingham Forrest and Aston Villa have also won the EC before yet they are not consider big teams then.
I remember that Everton had also won the old English Div one title with players like Sharpe, Adrian, Nevile, etc. :biggrin4: เพื่อนสนิท - Peuan Sanit - ดูมัส - Doo Mat |

Well about liverpool it is the past, for the past ten year, what have they done. don't mind me, I dont like man u either, however I must admit that they have done well. That is more like the present.
In fact the closest they got to winner the titlte was watching it as a child. This current team is just not the same. They are paid more but they are just a batch of overpaid, wanabes. they are the pretenters, they are no way near, the top.
I am backing on arsenal.... they are playing very well.
By the way which is your fave team. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

By the way which is your fave team. | | | | | I am in my 30's.
I grew up watching Big League Soccer on the telly.
Liverpool of today is not the Liverpool of yesteryears. They were once the most "hated" team in England cos they were winning almost everything. The current Pool's team has a long long way to go before they can be spoken in the same breathe as their teams in the late 70's, 80's and early 90's.
Professional players are paid a King's ransom nowadays. I do agree that the current crop of Pool's players are not as good as those of the other top 3 teams. But compared to other teams, they have a reasonable good squad and a top 4 finish should not be beyond their present squad.
Everton has a good squad when they won the old English Div 1 title back in....85 or 86? I remember players like Sharp, Adrain, etc.:biggrin4:
Nobody expected that Arsenal is doing well so far this season especially after selling their record scorer to Barcelona. All along I knew that Arsenal has a fanstastic but young squad. I thought that thay would need another 1 or 2 yrs to mature, to gain experience, before they can lodge a serious challenge for the title. Honestly, I am pleasantly surprised that they are doing so well right now.:love4:
Arsene Wenger is a good judge of players who is past their primes. Look at Anelka, Veira, Overmars, Petit, Ljungberg, Pires, etc and now Thierry Henry. They did not do well after they left Arsenal.:cry3:
Barcelona's style of play does not suit Thierry. At Arsenal, most of the attacks and balls goes to him but not at Barcelona where they have an embarressment of over talented attackers. Hence, he has only scored 3 goals for them so far and all the 3 goals came in a single match!:freakedout:
If Anelka had stayed at Arsenal instead of moving to Real Madrid, I am sure that he would have become one of the most fear strikers of his era under the guidance of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.:biggrin4:
I am an Arsenal fan since 1980!
Cheers! เพื่อนสนิท - Peuan Sanit - ดูมัส - Doo Mat |

I still don't believe they are a big team, it is the rest are small team. They don't have the budget to spent. imagine spending 40 million and still not be in euro championship. I just waiting to see.
Wenger is a real life saver, among the top four (to me is 3) I think arsenal is the best and deserve to win the EPL. They are more attractive to watch. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

They are more attractive to watch. | | | | | So we grew up watching "Big League Soccer" in those days....I remember those soccer shorts worn by the players then...so short & tight, like mini skirt now. :biggrin4:
Liverpool is considered a "big" club bcos of their titles they had won and the number of supporters that they have. Many people will like to be asscociated with a winning team. As such, 50-50 decisions has a higher percentage of going to a Top 4's teams rather than the opposition.
Like in 1995 when Blackburn won the EPL title, suddenly there was a lot of Blackburn fans. You can see people wearing their jerseys everywhere but where are they now? :biggrin4:
Not much people were wearing Chelsea jersey before they won their first EPL title. They are many now who wears it. To me Chelsea was not even a top 6 team before that rich Russian brought the team and settle its debts. With his $, Chelsea brought many players which they would not ever be able to afford without the Russian. And now they are considered a top "4" team. In term of success in Cups & titles, they are way behind Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool.
My point is that if the club is rich and can afford to pay king's ransom for players, they are likely to success and go on to become a "Top" team.
As for those teams with a tight budget, qualifying for UEFA Cup or even remaining in EPL would be consider a success. Thats why I would say that managers like Moyes (Everton), Mark Hughes(Blackburn), Sam (Formerly Bolton now Newcastle) have done a good job given their clubs' budgets.
Arsene Wenger has done a very good job since becoming the Manager. He has an eye for unpolish gems. He had unearthed and produced World Class or International Class players from no where, Players like Anelka, Petit, Ljungberg, Veira, Eboue, Toure, Pires, Helb, Rosicky, Henry, Fabregas, Van Persie and now Walcott. Of cos he has also misjudge on some other players but overall his success rate is very high.
He also have a good judgement on the players' sell by date. Established players that were sold to other clubs could not or had not perform up to their standard at Arsenal. These players include Anelka, Pires, Ljungberg, Veira, Overmars and now Henry.
Arsenal's team right now is a good team but probably lack the experience. They might no win the EPL this season but will definitely will in the near future. Man Utd's form recently is devasting! เพื่อนสนิท - Peuan Sanit - ดูมัส - Doo Mat |
