Lionel training with Manchester City - Singapore's Online Community

Singapore international Lionel Lewis is living many a footballer's dream as he in the midst of a week-long training stint with English Premier League side Manchester City, the Straits Times revealed on Saturday.

The newspaper has confirmed that the Home United man has been training with the Citizens since Tuesday, thanks to an initiative by FAS vice-president Lieutenant-General (Retired) Ng Jui Ping.

Manchester City's executive director Taweesuk Jack Srisumrid told the Straits Times: "City will give Lionel an opportunity to train and play in practice matches with the first team. This is the initial phase.

"He will spend time with the Premier League squad this week, after which he will return to Singapore for his Christmas holidays.

"In January, he will be invited by the club for a training camp in Australia where we will assess his potential further."

The training stint has come at the end of another successful season for the goalkeeper for both club and country. Capped 48 times by the Lions, he remains the only Singaporean player to be nominated for the AFC Player of the Year Award when he made the shortlist in 2005.

Lionel travelled to the City of Manchester Stadium on the team coach for Tuesday's Carling Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur and will also join the first teamers for the Premier League match against Aston Villa at the weekend.

He won't be signed ny them. Even if he is signed, it more for publicity and political purposes by Thaksin.

With the likes of older generation goalies Edmund wee & David Lee this young man is making a name for himself.

So far i feel lionel is one of the best goalie in the Asian region, given a opportunity to train & learn at top level like man city hope he can impart & share on either any traiming or management & it will benefit the club or county as a whole.

I dont think will get signed up by Man city but a least a opportunity to train with likes of kasper, hamman, bianchi, elano.

lai, Kasper not at Man City at the moment, he went on loan to a ELC team.

Man City got a Swedish no 1 keeper in the side, but Sven is fair, he gave the other 2 keepers a chance to see what they can do and now young Hart is the no. 1 choice, if Lewis can impress him during this short trail, i think they will sign him.

It basically mentally that work out, if lionel can face the challege, i think he is worth playing for the club. Base on his league game in singapore, i think it beacuse home unted was a good club and the defence was tight. It really a thrill moment if i heard him playing first eleven for MANC.

I also want to play for MANU. Year to come i will mark my name at threate of dream^^

yea. hate to shatter your dreamz dude, the only player who can make it to euro stage is haris to me.

him alone also no use...cant possibly bring up the standard if sg soccer with just a gk training with a bpl team right?
