Default Leave IT to the professionals

MOE provides schools with funds for tech experts

THEY are getting helpdesk, desktop support, network/server management, and more, but schools in Singapore still find themselves lacking in IT support.
.
Their infocomm technology (ICT) projects are getting more sophisticated and there is more ICT integration in the curriculum. This means that greater technical support, beyond that of one technology assistant, is needed.
.
Those were the findings of a study last year. So, from July, schools can turn to full-time ICT executives for professional solutions. The Ministry of Education is providing a $20.7-million grant for schools to engage additional ICT support staff.
.
This will give heads of department in information technology more time to focus on integrating ICT into the curriculum. The ICT executive can then execute daily ICT operational and administrative duties, such as procurement and inventory management, as well as assist the head of department in IT planning.
.
"This will create an engaging learning environment for the students, as they are exposed to technology and communication tools in their lessons to access and manage knowledge," said the MOE in a press release yesterday.
.
Some schools have been quick to boot up. Fuchun Secondary began a search this week for an IT executive for a 19-month period starting June.
.
Chestnut Drive Secondary is also on the lookout for an in-house IT specialist, according to the school's quotation yesterday, on the Government's e-procurement portal Gebiz. The specialist's responsibilities would include identifying and training students for national and regional competitions, and helping teachers to prepare students for IT competitions.

to fall in love is always easy
to start a relationship is always simple
to build it, is always tough
to maintain it, is 'better said than done'
to break off, is 'easier said than done'
to remain friends after u broke off, is never possible
to forget the memories is 'always doing but never succeeding'
to heal the pain within is hard and tough and never near simple
but one has to try to heal your own heart...
