Default job application

how long before graduation would you start applying for a job?

is it true that some students have jobs waiting for them before they graduate?

Some students start applying for jobs as early as 3-4 months before graduation. Some wait till after graduation, had a short break or holiday before doing so.

Some students will have jobs waiting for them if they are head-hunted by companies who go to universities to recruit talents. These students are usually the honour degree students, those who have outstanding academic & CCA performance and those who have done well in their attachment companies.

When you send in your resume, they will be able to see from your highest qualification/education entry. Another way to avoid this situation is to call the company HR and enquire if this position is in urgent need to be filled or is there any stipulated period the new staff has to start work. Usually the advertisements will state if they welcome fresh graduates to apply. If they do, then they will be expecting current students who are graduating soon to apply.

It's common nowadays to take at least 3 months to find a job, so applying for jobs 3 months before graduation isn't early. For the unlucky ones, they can't find 1 even after 6 months.

For the accounting students, it's different as there is high market demand now as there is a shortage of accounting personnel in audit firms as well as in the private sector.

Not forgetting graduates who joined MNCs on Graduate Trainee programmes.

It's ok lah...the important thing is to make sure you do something that can increase your worth while looking for another job.

You can pick up some studies on your own to refresh your knowledge, or pick up new knowledge, etc.

For me, while I was out of job for 3 months, I started a web portal that actually got members registering and making use of the functionalities. I presented this to my potential employer and I landed my next job because they like my website.
