Default Japan Trip

Good day People,

I am planning a trip to Japan, Tokyo and other parts of Japan.

1.) Is there any specific period to go ?
2.) How is the budget like ? To the extend that when you wish to buy anything, you buy, you wanna eat anything you just eat ? What is a comfortable spending budget ?
3.) Any place that is a must to visit ?
4.) Any recommended accomodation ? Must be clean and comfortable and private not those mass sharing kind or back packers corner.
5.) Any word of advice in moving around japan or safety advice ?

Cheers

Hi there! Have been to Japan once before free and easy for a few days, could provide you with some help,

1. Specific period? Not exactly, most people like us in Singapore like to go during winter or spring i guess, you can nvr feel the weather here in SG.

2. The cost of living in Japan is high, so be prepared to allow yourself a higher-than-average budget when you go there, a bowl of noodles could go up to 8-9 SG dollars i think.

3. Places to visit? depends on which part of Japan you going? If toyko, maybe the must-go Disneyland for many people? Or even Akihabara or Shinjuku for is blasting night life. If you are a music fanatic, could head down to Ochanomizu to get some real good instrument deals.

4. Accomodation? I dun know much about this area, all I did was to boook a hotel and stay with my family.

5. Moving around japan is quite convenient. ALWAYS use the train services if you can. They can practically bring you anyway in Japan. Nvr sit the taxis, I think they are very expensive as compared to Singapore.

hope these liitle bits of info can help you start up and plan your trip there!

I do not intend to go during winter or spring, afarid that I cannot stand the coldness, Spring maybe.

Is there any great night spot or clubs to visit that will be great to dance visit or chill out !!!
From the extreme of loud music to those old school jazz cafe !!! I will be going with a friend.

Hey there Skillet, going to Japan I see?

Okay...I'll try to answer your questions as best I can..

1)Specific Period, I reccommend Spring, it's in March 20th to around April-ish, if you do that, go to Ueno Park, Sakura trees in Full bloom FTW! (Scenery is BLOODY awesome)

2) Okay...the last time I went was for...er...5 days, you can EASILY blow SGD1k~ if you're not careful, based on food, expenditure(mostly, if you're an Otaku), and travel alone, accomodation at my hotel, Sunroute Shinjuku is easily 1k, for 4 nights (or less >.>).

3)Must Visits: Shinjuku Station, Akihabara on a SUNDAY, Harajuku (explore the Alleyways), Ueno Park, HMV in Shibuya is a GOOD example of Nightlife, and if you CAN, follow what's called the (It's a anime thing, you can give this a skip as it's time consuming) Byosoku trail.

I'll even give you a link, courtesy of Moeside

Byosoku trail

4) Hotel Sunroute Shinjuku is nice and quiet, next to convenience stores summore, can't say much on this though, and it IS expensive.

5) try to avoid Shinjuku's alleyways after 12.00 midnight if you stay out, Yakuza go there, but feel free to explore before that.

Hope this Helps.

As someone already mentioned, now would be a good time to go, cuz of the sakura trees.

From your description, that you can buy what you want to buy, and eat what you want to eat, it's really hard to give a budget. Makan still can estimate, but for shopping it really depends on what you want to buy. Anyway, you don't have to bring everything. If not enough just withdraw lor.

Foodwise, it's really not too expensive if you know where to go. I've had excellent miso katsu don for just S$10. But I eat a lot, so it adds up. Let's just put a budget of S$40 per meal, 4 meals a day, $160 a day. Snacks and other stuff, let's just round it up to S$200 a day on food each. So 8 days, S$1600. Definitely doable, but it also really depends on what you want to eat, and how much you can eat. For me, I can eat in a restaurant for dinner, then hop over to the next restaurant for round two. But mind you, if it's an expensive restaurant, you'll could blow 2-3 days worth of your budget on a single meal.

Nightlife, can't help you there at the moment. I don't really do that, my interest is food.

Anyway, I'm going to Kansai for a couple of days at the end of the month. If you're going there, and there's anything in particular that you want to know, I can help you find out.

As for safety, i don't really think there's a problem. I've wondered around after midnight in various parts of japan, without seeing anything of any concern. So I wouldn't be too worried. Of course, you'd still have to be prudent, no matter what country you're in. And yes, avoid the taxis.

I dunno abt everyone else... but I don't really like Tokyo. Prefer Osaka and Kyoto. Old World charm, compared to a concrete jungle... you wanna experience real Japan (or at least things that represent traditional Japan).. best go to Kansai area.. ^^

Whatever you do just DO NOT take the cab there. it's like x10 of singapore's price.

Go during the sakura seasons. You can't see it in singapore.

Go shinjuku go shopping also.
But it won't be cheap. my sis spent about $13000 for 10 days.

Most people relate Kansai to Takoyaki, XD.
