Default JAPAN DAILY NEWSPAPER April,19,2007 *Trainee doc killed self due to overwork

The Yomiuri Shimbun

The death of a 26-year-old female trainee doctor last April has been recognized by the Ikebukuro Labor Bureau in Tokyo as a case of suicide induced by overwork, it was learned Monday.

It is the first case of suicide by a trainee doctor due to overwork since the new doctor training system was introduced in 2004.

While the new system was aimed at improving working conditions for newly licensed doctors, the incident reveals the reality of life for trainee doctors, who still face harsh working conditions, as she reportedly far exceeded the legal working hours.

yes, let me put it to you clearly as well,

If you are working at macdonald, and the closing is at 10pm (japan GMT)
and the remaining of people (approx 30) and its already 10.30pm , you still have to serve them and after that clean up the place, that would be around midnight, you dont get paid working OT! Yes living in JAPAN, is expensive, but my japanese girlfriend living there , working at macdonald *cashier* earns about US$10 an hour..

S$3.50 is very little. It would be better if you can set up own business, so it wont be that difficult
