ITE College East kicks off Nitec course in Hair Fashion & Design

SINGAPORE: ITE College East has launched the very first National ITE Certificate (Nitec) in Hair Fashion & Design.

The course, which teaches students the latest techniques in hair styling, is so popular that only 14 percent of those who applied were taken in.

Cutting, perming and colouring are just some of the basic skills that students will pick up over the two-year, full-time course.

And for some, this is just what they have been waiting for.

Eugene Tay, a student, said: "I will start out as a junior hairstylist, then after gaining sufficient experience, I will try to become a senior hair stylist and eventually, a trainer or a manager."

ITE College East is partnering L'Oreal, which is supplying products as well as opportunities for industrial attachment, in this course.

Eugene Goh, general manager of Professional Products Division, L'Oreal, said: "There is a growing demand for such professionals, especially with the coming of the two integrated resorts. So obviously, such graduates will be able to get good jobs and contribute towards the growing economy in the service sector."

The next intake for this course will be in April this year at the School of Business, ITE College East.

I can't imagine that once they graduated, what kind of hair style or design can they produced?

ite getting mre and mre of this new, intresting courses..but will the grads have any gd prospects in the field?

Should have if not ITE would not spend money to setup this course.

When there is a demand, there is supply. So ITE supply the industry with skilled people.

those grads will go work for salon... but its good... ITE expanding.. a few years to come, poly and ite can become the same...

the ite courses really appeal to me : x i would be so happy to go there if i hadn't made it to poly.

Everyday wash hair, cut hair. Once graduated, becomes botak.
