I have an ILP with prudential now. I feel that it's fine coz I'm letting someone manage a portion of my money. I don't look at its profits now (even though it's like 20% gains) coz I take it as savings.

In the meantime, I do my own investments as well. I monitor my own investments more than the ILP because I leave it to my Financial Advisor (yup it's his job) to report to me every quarterly.

at least your agent from prudential still updates you regularly every quarter.
my agent from aia doesn't seem to update me for the investment stuff unless i request it from her.
however, i do meet her on average of about every 2 months...haha
its an informal meeting...just meet up for meals and chit chat that's all...never talk much bout the investment stuff unless i ask for it..

ILP = Investment-Linked Policy

A product offered only by insurance companies which gives you insurance coverage as well as investment into their underlying funds.

I was also looking into investing my CPF money. I am thinking of putting it into UOB Growthpath Series. However, a monthly RSP for CPF would incur additional transaction fees of $2 if i remember correctly. So i think it would be better to do a lump sum investment.

Any experts out there to give their comments and views?
Guess it would be beneficial to potential investors out there.:biggrin4:

i got my first ILP from AIA back then in yr01. treat it as a saving cos is regular premium, now still unable to break even... agent? think i know more abt ILP then him now. not that i know alot, just to show that he knows close to nothing abt ILP. he is my father's friend btw, in case anyone curious and i know nothing abt ILP back then.

i got my 2nd ILP from Pru 2 yrs ago, lump sum invm using cpf. ya, like djchris, pru ILP making profit, probably due to the right fund choice.

now that i understand more about ILP, will not go into it due to the high insurance cost. got $ i rather go into unit trust.

btw, chris, dun trust yr agent to monitor yr fund movement too much unless is a real close friend.

strongly agree!
i quarelled with another agent (an IFA) recently because she recommended an ILP to me. I already highlighted to her that I do not want an ILP as i do not want to mix my insurance and investment matters together. However, she still insist that ILP is most suitable for me. what rubbish!!!

In the end, I quarelled with her and terminated her service. Now I am looking into pure unit trusts. Even if for unit trusts, try to get it from an online portal e.g. Fundsupermart, poems, etc.

Get from banks will incur a higher sales charge.

I do make sure that I know which funds I invest in and do some research before deciding on the respective funds. After that, I rely on my advisor cum friend to update me on the prices. Meanwhile, I enrich myself by reading up on the mechanics that could affect my funds.

Most of the time I will be reading up on my own investments. Stocks are IMO, quite exp and overhyped. As I've already invested in a few counters a few months back, I've stopped looking at stocks for the moment. I tend to look at lesser discussed instruments. Now, it's gold for me.

For my own investments, I don't invest in funds. It's just a personal choice.

if you want investment, go for pure unit trust investment and NOT ILP. there may be some hidden costs and charges in an ILP product which might not be highlighted by your servicing agent. Furthermore, insurance charges and mortality charges will increase nxt time when you are more senior in age. Therefore, it may eat into your investment returns. Rather than the insurance portion eating into your investment, why not just seperate the 2 issues?

Just my 2 cents.
