Anyone invested or thinking of investing in gold?

The reason why I'm looking at investing in gold is because the stock market is IMO, too hyped up. Hence I prefer to look at instruments that less people notice.

Have been posting my research and learnings in my blog as well. Just want to see if any like-minded people around.

or is it possible to invest in it with just a small amount?

why not get a unit trust for gold price instead...less admin...anyone interested PM me I hv a factsheet on that.

Ok, sorry, I didn't check back on this thread. Here are my answers.

Gold is considered a commodity (precious metal). But in terms of currency, bring a physical gold bar to any financial institution in most countries and most likely, they will recognise its value and are willing to trade it with money.

There are many methods of investing in gold and hence the minimum amount to invest, would vary according to the investment method chosen. Here are some of them:
- Start a Gold Savings Account with UOB
- Invest in StreetTracks Gold ETF on the SGX
- Invest in gold mining companies overseas
- Purchase physical gold bars/coins
- Gold unit trusts

I would prefer to own physical gold. That's my personal preference. You can get it via UOB at Raffles Place.

If we talk about investing in gold-related funds, I would prefer the StreetTracks Gold ETF more than any other Unit Trusts. It is also my personal preference not to do any DIY investment in Unit Trust.

In James Turk and John Robino’s book, ”The Coming Collapse Of The Dollar And How To Profit From It“, James and John has shared their thoughts on how much gold should one own bearing in mind the possibility of a currency crisis.

Ask the average financial planner about how much precious metal should you own and you’ll get the conventional answer: Put most of your money in stocks, bonds, and cash, and no more than 10 percent into gold as a “hedge” against the highly unlikely event of financial instability. But as you’ve no doubt gathered, we view this traditional asset-allocation strategy as wildly speculative, since cash, bonds, and many stocks are at grave risk in a dollar crisis. Instead, you’re better off putting not just a bit, but the bulk, of your cash into physical gold and most of the rest of your capital into gold-related investments....

Yes I do invest in precious metals like gold, silver...I do currency trading on a fulltime basis and nowadays manage stock portfolios apart from running my other businesses

Gold has a near price target of U$1000 and the next level of target is $2000(not so soon for this tho)

I also invested in gold, bought a S$100 gold chain to keep. Hoping gold will rise to US$2000 so I can sell it to realise my gains. Hahahaha.

I don't know anything about gold but everyone saying about gold, so gold much be good. People say i also say la, if not i lose out, no face right?

I'm sure nobody will laugh at anyone who learns and shares their knowledge.

There are many variables that one needs to be mindful of.

Some examples here...

1) As gold prices are pegged to the USD, when the dollar weakens against other major currencies, gold prices go up.

2) Buying and sellling actions from Central banks also affect gold prices. They have a quota limit on how much they can sell each year.

Gold follows oil, not the other way round. When oil producers make more money, they buy gold to diversify. Also Oil = black gold mah...haha

my mum loves to buy gold items last time..... so unknowingly she had made quite a bit of investment.... now all these gold are kept in 1 corner of the house to realise its value and she had swop her interest to useless stones known as diamonds...zzz....

if only she buy gold with those money she spent on diamonds! lol
