Total SGC$: 3,719.05 | Interviewer says: At 35, your earnings of $55K ~ $60K a year is considered low. Saw this on another forum... so what do you all think?
Guys, at 35, earning around $55,000 really consider low? | Quote: | | | | | Went for a job interview with a MNC last week. Tried to apply for a Managerial position.
Interviewer says I at age 35, consider quite old, still earning about $55,000 - $60,000 in a year is considered low. Should have been more than that.
Offered me a Supervisory position instead and offered to pay me lower than what I am drawing cos she says I am from a different industry. | | | | | |

Really depends on the industry, occupation, education and many other factors, not just the age. What's his background? Is he a manager, or a technician, or a labourer, or a professional? Is he in IT, FMCG, electronics, tourism etc etc etc...... You get the picture. All the info here is that he's 35 and applying to be a manager in a new company.
Anyway, the average wage of a s'porean is readily available in the MOM website, divided according to occupation, age, sex etc. |

Assume a degree holder start working at 25 with a starting pay of 30k a year..is it really normal to double the pay in 10 years time? Or only a minority can reach it? |

Anyway, the example quoted is regarding the average income of a 35 year old male.
If a manager's minimum income is 6k a month, then what's the average? And is this average standard across ALL industries, occupations etc? Can't be right........ so what is it specific to?
Same goes for the financial manager. |

First they say your current drawn is low and keep digging all the information on your pay to justify their offer.
Secondly you can see the interviewer never offered the original post but a lower post... so the assessment and motive is not correct.
As in my case in any interview i will state my expected. if they offer me lower then i say no immediately. If they are genunine in offer, they will meet my offer.
"When people consult me, it's not that I'm reading the future; I am guessing at the future. Based on the omens of the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it, what comes later will also be better."

It helps to know this when negotiating for your salary. I did a spreadsheet sourcing a few other sites when I negotiated my pay, but can't seem to find it now.
Salary tends to be linked to 3 main factors: - Your education.
- Your work experience (transferrable skills).
- The requirements of the job.
Using your "last drawn" as a guage is usually a bad idea as you may end up being paid less to do more, or vice versa. |

ppl aso see whether you have any relevant experiences b4 employing. do u tink that some companies pay more for ppl hu haf more experience even tho working on the same job?
to me, i tink the most u can learn fr a job is onli 2-3 yrs time.
20 yrs of experiences = 1 yr of experience X 20 times.
most of the time is repeating the same process all over again.
in my opinion, i prefer being an entrepreneur.. it may b tougher than having a job.. but it gives the greatest satisfaction to mi.
