Total SGC$: 322.96 | Interesting Place in Melbourne? I'm planning a trip to Australia this Aug, bringing my sis and her 2 little nieces along. Intention is to fly in to Brisbane, travel by train to Gold Coast, spend time at the theme parks, take a drive down to Sydney, then head to Snowy Mountain, Great Ocean Road, then to Melbourne.
I know Melbourne has the Penguin Parade, but anything else, especially for young kids (less than 6 years old)?
How about where to stay that is good, convenient, and yet not too expensive? Safe too as only my sis and I with 2 very young girls.

The great ocean road might not be ideal cos the bus ride is really long.
If you dun have experience driving overseas then it might not be recommended for you to drive cos the roads are quite dark at night and the kids might get scared, so better to go with bus tours. |

Will plan a good day to Phillip Island. Have driven in Australia before, so should be quite ok. But I'm avoiding driving at night as only 2 ladies and 2 little girls. Don't think it is safe.

Its an interesting place to explore, particularly if you are driving. The main prob is that you need to stay til night fall to catch the penguin parade. By then, its really dark and driving back can be quite scary cos there is no street lamp along there main highway until you're closer to the city.
The scenary along the great ocean road is really nice, but you might wanna consider staying overnight along the way if you wanna avoid driving at night. Cos by the time we reached the end of the sights, it was evening.
St. Kildas and various weekend markets at South Bank is also fun to explore.
Dun miss out victoria markets for fresh produce too

along the Great Ocean Road, there are a few stables which run horse rides along the beach. I remember doing one near a town called Warnambool. I believe they can do a modified one for young children.
Pls do plan your drive carefully and have a lot of rest. The distance seems pretty long to me, if you don't have a lot of time to cover the over 2000km.
Have a great trip.

I have taken some brochures from various travel agencies. Just not sure whether they are ideal for my young nieces.
