Many times you might of heard that the Japanese are a ethnically homogeneous people. This is not correct. A documentary on Japanese national broadcaster NHK analyzed the genetic sequence of the Japanese people and found that the Japanese are more genetically diverse than Koreans or Chinese people, both of whom have very high percentages of their own unique DNA.
The Japanese genetic sequence showed
4.8% Uniquely Japanese
24.2% Korean
25.8% Chinese
8.1% Ainu
16.1% Okinawan
21% Other
The Korean genetic sequence showed
40% Uniquely Korean
The Chinese genetic sequence showed
60% Uniquely Chinese
Pretty interesting considering you won’t find this in any Japanese textbook.
