Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get some feedbacks.

I'm thinking of hosting a free wordpress blog community, something like blogspot. The idea is that the server is hosted in Singapore, so the loading speed will be faster for the blog. The blog community will be based on adsense revenue sharing.

This means that in your blog admin page, you can enter your adsense pub id, and drag a widget to your blog's side bar. This widget will display google ads on a rotating basis whereby 80% of the impressions on the blog will be showing your adsense ads and 20% of the impressions will be showing my adsense ads. It's pretty common in the states and I'm thinking of doing it here.

It's a win-win situation in the sense, the blog is hosted in Singapore, so it loads faster for the blogger & his/her visitors. The blog is based on revenue sharing, so it's self-sustainable without making the blogger pay for the blog. And in my opinion, the blogspot's customised software is not as good as wordpress. And the free wordpress.com blog does not allow adsense ads.

Therefore I have this idea.

If you are able to host wordpress model blog with domain name and allowed adsense ads, it might work. The key here is free hosting and free domain.

More and more IM are leveraging on blogs to accelerate their revenue but those who just started, (like me) doesnt feel the need to pay for hosting and domain yet.

But if you can throw in the incentive of FREE domain and hosting as a package, yes it may work.

A free subdomain name like blogspot is okay. But for a full domain name, not possible because it costs $12-15 for a domain name.

It will work like blogspot, just that you get to have wordpress and ads.

$15 per year....that is retail price mah..what is your cost price leh? Coz you also do webhosting right?

And one important thing...say 100 ppl get your blog, how much revenue can you bring in from other sources besides adsense? Can your adsense cover the cost? I dunno so you must think lor...But I am sure if adsense can cover your cost, then I think potential quite big....

Just an idea.....I think the key is 'subscribers'.

$12-15 is the cost price. I don't charge my clients extra fees for domain name registrations. Just goodwill.

Right now, I won't be making use of subscribers yet. My target is 5000 bloggers. Not too concerned about webhosting costs because my webhosting revenue is sufficient to realise all my internet ideas. But to provide free domain names for 5000 bloggers, that's a hefty sum to pay.

And you know I do free online stuff just for the fun of it...like ourledger.net, etc. It's just what I like to do.

this sound pretty interesting, however, pardon me for the ignorance, but under wordpress, does it allows u to customise ur blog skin just like the way i did personally for my own blog

and if it does, HTML i presume is the basic language rite?

The script that I'm testing now, does not have the ability to customise your theme. I'm still searching for plug-ins to see if there's a work-around.

The problem is because the themes are shared by all the users. And I'll be upload quite a good number of themes for uses to choose from.

Will the ability to customise themes be very important to you? Or just good to have?

Theres plenty of free blog hosting (Including wordpress) out there. Why should I choose you? Because of fast speed? No? Other servers out there are also extremely fast too. You've got to think of something to make your hosting unique. You say adsense revenue sharing, are you sure many SINGAPOREANS (isnt that your target audience?) bloggers have it?

Theres many things to consider, for now I doubt you would earn anything from it except traffic (probably)

somehow by targeting 5000 people in singapore, you can ask others [in singapore, be it store or what] to advertise their stuff on your web.
since "so" many people created this traffic etc.
thus you'll earn from there too isn't it?

He aint giving domain names out. No one gives domain names out for free. And I think instead of them advertising their stuff on his site, he advertises his stuff on their site thus able to earn traffic in that way.

Hmm, I find that most of the time when I want to start a new idea, most people keep thinking of what I'm trying to gain.

The onlhy earning I'm looking at, adsense revenue sharing. As mentioned earlier, 80/20. So it is beneficial to everyone. Even if nobody clicks and I don't earn anything, I'm fine because it does not cost me anything. That's what make the internet fun!

I'm also thinking of adding plugins like a shopping cart so that people can run a real blog shop with online purchasing capabilities.
