Do check if the laptop is Vista ready. Cos some hardware need special drivers to work with Vista. And not all drivers are compatible with Vista.

Actually, the laptop is vista capable.
Anyway, I will ghost my current OS before attempting to install vista.
Thanks all for the views and advices.
Desktop: AMD X2 3600+ 2GHz, 3GB RAM, 160GB HDD, 17" LCD display

Get a thumbdrive that is readyboost capable. It really helps as Vista throws all processes into memory even when the computer is idle. The startup processes is a killer with just normal ram alone for Vista.
Check with the store if the thunbdrive is readyboost capable if you're considering in getting one.

there is a window vista adviser try to use that to check ur specification if is it fit for the specific vista version you want to install | |
