Default ICA enhances e-services for the public and visitors

SINGAPORE: Foreign nationals and students can now apply online when extending their stay in the country as the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has enhanced e-services and introduced faster processing times for all applications.

And for those wanting more, additional e-treats were rolled out at the ICA's workplan seminar.

The annual workplan seminar charts the future direction for the ICA as well as reflect on past successes.

This year, the aim is to reach for 'infinity' as it recognises the unceasing race to secure borders and better immigration facilities.

Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State, Law & Home Affairs, said: "The challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in border security are myriad and infinite. Globalisation, the rapid movement of people and goods across borders, the ever-present terrorist threat, transnational criminals and smugglers, are just some of the many challenges you face."

Despite these hurdles, ICA is committed – by leveraging on technology – to simplify transactions for its law-abiding patrons.

For example, e-XTEND streamlines processes for foreigners wishing to extend their social visit passes.

Everything can be done online and the outcome is made known on the day itself.

From 2 May, e-XTEND will be enhanced to allow even more foreigners to enjoy the convenience of applying for extension of their stay online.

From the initial 94 countries, a total of 179 countries will be able to apply for extension and make e-payment.

Foreign students applying for courses will also be able to apply for passes online through an enhanced system called SOLAR+.

Meanwhile, as Singapore ups the ante in its bid to attract foreigners, ICA has launched the Naturalisation Eligibility Tool – another online system which allows foreigners to determine their eligibility for citizenship.
