The most common form of hair loss in men is called male pattern hair loss. The development of male pattern hair loss depends on male hormones (androgens) and a genetic predisposition (hereditary factors).

What is 'Male Pattern Hair Loss'?
Male pattern hair loss is a strikingly widespread condition (responsible for 90% - 95% of hair loss in men). It occurs in 25% of men by age 25 and 50% of men by age 50. With male pattern hair loss, your hair begins to thin at the temples and at the crown. As time goes on, the hair at the temples recedes further, leaving a central spur of hair at the front, and an increasing bald spot at the crown. Eventually the areas of hair loss at the front and crown meet, and the top of the head becomes increasingly bald. All that remains is a border of hair around the side and back of the head.

Male pattern hair loss or common baldnes is an androgen (male hormone) mediated hair loss that occur in genetically predisposed individuals. The key androgen is dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is produced from testosterone by 5 alpha-reductase (an enzyme).

How Hormones affects Normal Hair Growth
The hair roots receive nutrients from blood vessels which contain blood cells (red) and hormone called testosterone (blue). Testosterone is converted to another hormone called DHT (yellow) by the actions of an enzyme called 5 alpha-reductase

When high levels of DHT are present in the scalps of men who are genetically predisposed to male pattern hair loss, the following happens:
1. Shortening of the Growing Phase (Anagen Stage)
2. Progressive shrinkage of hair follicles, making hair shorter, finer and lighter.
3. Decreases the number of visible hairs.

How Women Lose Hair
Female hair loss has a traumatic effect on women. Hormonal imbalance is one of the key factors that leads to thinning of hair among women.

What is 'Female Pattern Hair Loss' ?
In females, the onset of hair loss is significantly delayed over the male counterpart with a similar genetic background, often by a decade. Thus, onset between 25 and 35 years of age is common, and onset at puberty is the exception. The extent of hair loss in females with normal hormonal level is much more limited than in males.

An oval area of thinning is seen over the top of the scalp which may progress through mild to moderate or severe diffuse thinning, with the preservation of an intact frontal hair margin. This female pattern of diffuse thinning is occasionally seen in men. Bitemporal recession of hair may be seen, but usually not of the severity seen in men.

You can try Keratase shampoo. Get the white one which will reduce oil on hair scalp that could block your hair growth.

i only know if u have very oily hair then u should use shampoo that removes oil only and dont use those shampoo with conditioner effect.. this is what a hair stylist told me..

from moi lecturer... if ur hairs are falling very serious at 1 part... (for male) jus shave it... dun use hair from other part of the head to cover here and cover there...

Why not? Any medical explaination? Cause i've been dropping hair and my forehead appears higher and more visible, then the auntie cutting me hair in the salon suggest me to leave a long fringe so as not to look so... Erm. Bald.
