How Many Feel that Your Parents Just Don't Understand Teenagers? - Singapore's Online Community

Just wondering how many of you feel that you and your parents have this huge generation gap that they cannot relate or understand the things you are going through and even if you explained, they still wouldn't understand?

things like BGR, internet, etc....

I voted for partial.
they are once teenagers too.. they should be able to understand what we are going through.
giving the wise advices to us all the time, to remind us not to repeat the same mistakes they did in the past because they care for us. just that we are too young and lack of experiences in handling situations, kept thinking that they don't understand us and refuse to do what they want us to.
on the other hand, there are new stuffs coming up like the latest trend, gadgets etc.. they may be too busy with work to even keep up on the latest stuffs that we desire for. hence they may not understand the need for it as they think it's just a waste on money to such things.
if we are willing to explain and share our thoughts with them, they will surely understand. just that, sometimes they are too busy and tired with their work and managing the family to even think on our part, hence they may still be kept up with the old fashioned thoughts.

they really don't understand, their education standard was so different from the past, and technology also

i think it would depend on the parents themselves...

like my mother.. she understand me quite well, because she attends talks and seminar organize by my school on things like how to communicate, and so on... if the parents do take the effort in trying to understand their children i think it will work work fine...

but in some case.. some parents take effort in trying to understand their children but they do it the wrong way... thus, wrong way of understand their children too..

well I wouldn't say that all parents doesn't understand teenagers.. But I know my family doesn't know for me..

My mom very kai fang one. theres a time she even ask me to show her porn! She say her friends phone all got porn how come i dont have! Lol

I voted for partial . My mother is like my sister and My father is a traditional woodblock X_X , so can i say that my mother understand me but my father don't?Hahas maybe they understand how we feel but didn't show it .

I voted partially..
As i feel my parents are trying their best to understand me especially my mum..
But sometimes they just like to stick with their tranditional thinking too much & makes it difficult for them to accept some new things in the latest technology world..
I agree that as long as we are willing to communicate with them, things should be able to work out between my parents & I..
It also depends very much on whether they are willing to change their thinking..

sighh. my mother always thinks that she's the only who's stressed and troubled. but so am i and she doesn't even bother to understand that. not only she doesn't say anything nice or encouraging to me, she scold me and beat me then remind me of my sad past and present.

parents were once teenagers too..
so,knowing that,they try to adjust themselves to us..
in fact,my parents oso sumtimes use slang words which i usually use wit my friends..^^
but well..sometimes they r oso stubborn to change their point of view of one thing....
still,i could understand that coz the parents' era and our era now are totally diffrent..^^
i would like to thank my parents for trying to adjust with me n my bro , even thou i still get scolded over controversial subjects..=_=ll

well at least for me... =-=

my Teens years was a waste.... i always say this to my friends n they will ask "y?"
lock in house like a bird after school no freedom at all....
den go to nearby shopping mall oso need to be like ninja hide ard =-=
no BOY de friends... must be girls *i have something to counter this actually muahahaha*
no anything till after OLVL is done =-= tt includes owning a HP
go downstairs oso have to report to my parent *ma i m going down* *for wad?* =-=a
i even remember i got caught for using IRC n then no computer/TV for the rest of days.. till dec holiday

now i m old liao...
yes i do appreciate the 50% of freedom that my parents gave me but....
i still having curfew? =-=
every time i go out with my friend ... i m always the one who ended everything early make everyone go home so early.. as my cufew is like 11pm...

when ppl know i have curfew.. they will go "WAD?! u how old liao.. still have curfew..." some of em even laugh =-=....
but i always replied "i m already happy tt i can go out with u guys.... not asking for more already"

n for those teens out there...
it thinks parents spoils em so much like... asking for wad they wan...n blah
i have to save my own to get something i wan.. or.. score really really well to get something ~_~

i have to agree with u....
some parents wont wan to have such scenario like parents bring up the children so hard n the children go mix wif bad companies.... n got a lot of stuff like gang fight n blah blah... in the end it is not the children who is suffering it is the parents who is suffering... IMO
