Hi, would just like to ask if putting a male hamster and a female one automatically mean that the female will get pregnant? My female hamster doesn't seem to give birth although they are friendly to each other. Is something wrong? Anyone experiencing this before too?

try let the male alone for few weeks ....then put back ...or maby feed some drugs like tongkat ali LOL.if all this dun work ..maby the male or female is impotence.

lol...you don't have to separate your hamsters. I have hamsters (female and male together) but the female hamster can't get pregnant, whereas another few hamsters of mine (female and male) who are always quarreling and one day while i am cleaning my hamsters' cages, found out that that female hamster got pregnant.

There are few factors that might cause female hamster not being able to be pregnant, firstly, if the male hamster is the son of the female hamster, the female hamster might not (or might) get pregnant. Secondly, either the female or male hamster might be impotent.

So even if putting two hamsters (male and female) together might not guarantee a 100% success rate that the female hamster will get pregnant.

But normally if hamster give birth, they will normally give birth to more than 5 baby hamsters! So be sure that you have prepare yourself to take care of more hamster babies

Umm. You gotta get ready a few small cages, like those which can also keep fishes in them, those small small type, to isolate the babies individually when they're out of the mother. Or else, seriously, the mother will eat the baby.

Wait till the child is abit bigger before placing them in the same cage. Last time my mother hamster ate the babies

I used to have around 15 hamsters at once! -.-" And most of them fight, so imagine the number of cages I had! Haha..

Older hamsters won't be able to give birth, because they are no longer productive I think. And if they are siblings, who are put together in the same cage from birth, may also play a part. Hmm.

Those who say they care really don't. Because those who do, don't need words to justify their actions.

Dunno leh. But i saw them mating just now. WWP(dad) + WWS(mom) come out what breed? All pearls or sapphires. Will come out normal mah? Anyway, i got a few extra cages prepared for them le.

The parents are not siblings actually. If place siblings together, will they still have offsprings? That's inbreeding, which is not good right? Pardon me for my noobiness.

There are many many different kind of hamsters available in the market. For big, cuddly hamster species would be Syrian Hamster. Small and furry ones would be dwarf winter white, dwarf campbell, or the smallest species of hamster would be Roborovski Hamster



When winter white pearl and winter white sapphires are being breed together, the babies that are produced will be normal, and there will be a mixture of winter white pearl babies and winter white sapphire babies. Sometime (for my case) i got winter white russian hamster babies

Normally parents if they are being mated with their children will not be able to produce offspring as the parents might be too old to give birth, whereas if siblings are being placed together to mate they will give birth to babies (inbreeding can be done between hamster siblings, but the chances of giving birth to less hamster babies will be higer, normally less than 5, and some will be stillborn...that means....they passed away once they are born...) Sibling hamsters can be placed together to undergo mating, but the best would be to get male and female hamsters that are not sibling to breed.

No problem. You can ask the pet shop keeper on the different varieties of hamsters available. Or you can check out books on hamsters or some websites which provide guides on hamsters species and how to take care of hamsters
