SINGAPORE: The government has approved the building of the MRT Downtown Line at a cost of S$12 billion.
The 40-kilometre line will be built in 3 stages and is expected to be completed by 2018.
The Downtown Line stage one is expected to start construction at the end of this year and may be completed by 2013.
It will have six stations.
Stage Two will be completed by 2015 and will have 12 stations.
Stage Three will be completed by 2018 and will have 15 stations.
The new Downtown Line will have a total of 10 interchanges within the existing current rail network. - CNA/yy
