Girl, 6, alleges teacher caned her for writing mistake
KAPAR - SHE put a full stop in the wrong place in her Bahasa Malaysia homework.
For that, the six-year-old is alleged to have been severely caned by her teacher, who is also the principal of a kindergarten here, The New Straits Times reported on Thursday.
The girl is said to have been whacked on the back, shoulders, chest, legs and head.
Her mother, Mrs S Thavamani said her daughter appeared very subdued when she picked her up from the kindergarten on Wednesday morning.
'Later at home, she complained of back pain. I was shocked to see the marks on her body when I was helping her change out of her school uniform,' she told the NST.
'I counted more than 20 marks. She refused to tell me at first what had happened.'
After some persuasion, the girl told her mother that the teacher flew into a rage after finding mistakes in the homework of five pupils.
She allegedly hit the children with such a frenzy that her spectacles fell off.
Mrs Thavamani said the teacher had also threatened the children with more beatings if they complained to anyone.
'This is too much. And this is not the first time. This is the third time and the worst so far,' she said, pointing out that her daughter had suffered several cuts and bruise when she was punished twice previously.
Mrs Thavamani made a police report at the Kapar police station on Wednesday,
Police have sent the girl to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for a medical check-up.
'Once we get the medical report, we will call up the teacher for questioning,' said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Mat Yusof, adding that she could possibly face charges of causing hurt.
Police would also interview the other children alleged to have been beaten, said NST.
