Muhammad Sophian was among the crowd which had gathered to watch these two men catching fish in a drain along Hougang Avenue 10, between Block 422 and 421, at around 6pm Saturday (Jan 6).
The 23-year-old NSF said this was the first time he has seen something like that and added that he was surprised at the large catch.
"I think there were so many fish because last week’s flood brought them in," he added.
Mr Sophian said the two men looked to be in their 30s and were probably from China. Their fishing equipment? Nothing more than the green net shown in the picture.
"I didn’t know how these men got down to the drain. They were throwing out the tiny fish, taking only the bigger ones," he observed.
Mr Sophian thinks some of the catch would end up in the market.
Asked if he would eat fish that were caught in drains, he replied, "No, but you can’t tell, right?"
