Default Faster footwork or slower footwork?

We know there are bowlers who succeed with faster footwork ( Mark Roth, Norm Duke, Amleto Monacelli...etc) and some succeed with slower footwork ( Tim Criss, Brad Angelo...etc).

I find that a faster footwork can increase ball speed for me, but I tend to lose my balance quite a bit as it causes a rush approach and muscled downswing at times due to the feet getting to the foul line much earlier. A slower approach helps me in the balance department, but my ball speed tends to be on the slower side.

I know every bowler is different and the best result may be to find a footwork that is in between ( Chris Barnes, Pete Weber...etc). But from the pros and cons, which is better? More on the faster side or slower side?

True. But just wondering if most of the bowlers here are on the faster side or slower side regarding footwork? For the bowlers on the faster side, do you have more difficulty staying balance or maintaining a free armswing? And for the bowlers on the slower side, do you have difficulty increasing your ball speed?

I had tried both and each has it pros and cons for me as I stated. Faster feet, more speed but not very stable at the line and inconsistency due to muscled downswing. Slower feet, slower ball speed but more stable at the line and consistent due to a free armswing.

I go for stable , normal walking speed (more consistent and increase accuracy)....and I am practicing on power slide , which give the ball more speed when u slide and swing out at the same time....

Default Re: Faster footwork or slower footwork?

timing is the key to everything

i can make a slow bowler increase his ball speed without having to speed up his footwork...and vice versa...so its not about fast or slow foot work its about the timing

wanna learn how to do it?
get a coach who knows what he is doing to teach u how to do it....

actually i dun really agree that slower footwork will result in slower ball speed.

personally, i prefer a natural footwork (speed in consideration) that is in tandem with your natural pushaway and swing. so in another words, your footwork timing should follow your natural swing motion and not the other way round (which might result in muscled swing like you mentioned).

if you allow the swing and release to be as natural as possible, the speed will come into play itself. of course, the initial ball position and follow-through are also vital in achieving ball speed.
