Default Will it encouraged social ills like teen sex & pregancies?

Quote:
HUH? What? I don't think so.

These are just some of the reactions The New Paper got from parents and educationists.

And a survey by Aoxiang Counselling Service makes for disturbing reading.

STIGMA
Out of the 1,553 lower secondary students surveyed, a worrying 420 said they are already having sex.

Also, we had reported on Wednesday how a 9-year-old girl was made pregnant by a student from the same primary school.

These could be some of the reasons why housewife J Tan, 44, doesn't see how having a friendship club would encourage friendships.

Mrs Tan, who has two sons aged 5 and 10, added that kids who join the club may even be stigmatised.

'Kids are not stupid. There may be stigma associated with joining the club and, kids being kids, they may get teased by their friends that they joined the club just to meet girls.'

Principal of Telok Kurau Secondary, Mr Harphal Singh, pointed out that the Ministry of Education has already introduced sexuality education, which touches on boy-girl-relationships and how to handle them.

He added that a Friendship Club would only benefit a limited group of students.

'What's the point in having a club which benefits only a small group of people when you have the sexuality education programme which is open to everybody,' he asked.

this is indeed worrying.though singapore's more open then before.

ya really too open bah i didnt know it is so open now sia la think time to teach sex education at a lower age liao or else :speechless:

to fall in love is always easy
to start a relationship is always simple
to build it, is always tough
to maintain it, is 'better said than done'
to break off, is 'easier said than done'
to remain friends after u broke off, is never possible
to forget the memories is 'always doing but never succeeding'
to heal the pain within is hard and tough and never near simple
but one has to try to heal your own heart...

Can't do anything besides worrying though. Serious. This is the trend we are moving to, and this is the trend we must address and channel positively. No use worrying about it happening.

Just wondering - are the schools today still running the Sexuality Education courses (the Growing Up series)? I sort of remembered it launched with a bang but gradually move off to a whimper...

This is exactly what I'm thinking too!
If some unplanned situation occurs - after the friendship thing, then got pregnant, what excuse will they give?

Of course they'll say "it's what the govt wants what!"

Biangz. Cannot make it la! :freakedout:
