Employment Act review to consider feedback from bosses, unions SINGAPORE: Manpower Minister Ng Eng Hen says Singapore's Employment Act would need to be reviewed to keep up with the times.
To do this, a balanced approach is needed to ensure that Singapore remains competitive.
Amendments also must address the different concerns of the tripartite partners.
Dr Ng was speaking in Parliament on Monday.
He was replying to a question on expanding the Employment Act to cover more groups of workers such as junior executives and confidential staff.
The Minister noted that employers have indicated that they want to address issues concerning overtime and medical leave provisions so as to manage rising wage costs.
Other concerns are eligibility and the levels of retrenchment benefits.
Dr Ng assured that before changes are made to the Employment Act, the tripartite partners would be consulted. |
