He grabs 17-month-old by diapers, flings her to safety
A RESCUED dog repaid its owners' kindness by saving their 17-month-old daughter from a snake in Cairns, Australia.
Khan, a doberman that was adopted from an animal shelter, hauled little Charlotte Svillicic by her diapers and flung her away from a king brown snake as it was about to strike on Monday.
The Daily Mail reported that the snake, one of the most venomous in the world, bit the dog on the leg.
Charlotte's mother, Mrs Svillicic, said: 'He saved her life by risking his own.
'From now on, he's Khan the Wonder Dog.'
Charlotte had been playing in the garden of her home when Khan began acting aggressively.
He had spotted the snake's hiding place beneath the house.
Mrs Svillicic said Khan kept trying to nudge Charlotte away from the snake.
When that didn't work, he threw her over his shoulder by more than a metre, 'like she was a rag doll'.
Khan received a shot of anti-venom from a vet and has fully recovered.
Cairns Post reported that the Svillicic family has been flooded by calls from national and international media about Khan.
Two rival morning shows were even embroiled in a bidding war as they fought to get Mrs Svillicic, Charlotte and Khan on their programmes.
'Khan's a star,' Mrs Svillicic said.
'There has been a bit of serious rivalry between the morning shows, each saying they don't want the story if I speak to the other.'
The story received the most hits on The Courier Mail's website, where readers left messages of praise.
Some wanted Khan to receive a bravery award.
But Khan wanted something else - sleep.
Mrs Svillicic said: 'After all the attention, he had to have a really big sleep.'
