I've been in Photography since 1972. Started with Leica. Now use Canon. Had a Nikon, but Canon is better for what I do. You did not say your price range or what you wanted to do with it. Point and shoot or DSLR. If you don't want to , or don't know how to manipulate f-stops and ISO's, stick with point and shoot. You can get quality good enough for 8x10 prints. I have the Canon EOS 5D and the 30D. The guy that bought the 400D can do almost everything I can at about 1/4 the price.

hmmm if you happen to have an old digital camera , you may want to consider the trade-in special promotion by Audio house you can get up to $80 for any old camera trade in i think. And i like them because they offer a lowest price guarantee too ^^

i personally felt that canon is a very good camera brand.. i use fujitsu and sony, the cams either died on me within months or either things starts falling apart.. but i have been using canon for 2 years and counting (:
