In general, FFXIII is the old classical type of FF while FF Versus XIII is a somewhat action FF RPG.
Both games are set in two different worlds.
Also, FF Versus XIII could be the first game in the FF series to show blood and gore. Blood was seen spilling out from soldiers in one of the trailerswhich is almost non-existent in the previous FF games
