 Dad-to-be killed in bike accident
A BABY boy due to be born in 10 days will now never know his Dad, who died in a motorcycle accident on Saturday morning.
The 34-year-old rider was on the Pan-Island Expressway just after 7am, headed in the direction of Jurong, when his machine collided with a car near the Toa Payoh exit.
Mr Kang Wee Lik, a crane operator, was thrown off his bike.
The police said he died of multiple injuries at the scene; the driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with chest pains.
At the mortuary on Sunday morning, Mr Kang's family told the Chinese newspapers that his Vietnamese wife was due to deliver the couple's first child in 10 days and had already picked a name for the baby.
The couple had been married two years, they told Lianhe Wanbao.
They added that Mr Kang was looking forward to becoming a father, and had switched from being a delivery man to a crane operator a month ago to earn more money to raise the child.
To earn more, he never rejected any assignments, his father said.
His wife was too distraught to be interviewed.
Family members said they believed he was on his way to work when the accident happened.
