Angry customer unfriendly singtel hello shop?

Yesterday night i went to one hello! shop to get a new phone an renew my contract. The lady in the front counter asked me what phone i would like to get. I told her i would like to look at a few phones first and she said ok.

After waiting for more then half an hour, I went to the guy who was serving me. I told him i would like to look at the actual phone of 2 models. Then he told me that it's not possible, that i could only look at the dummy phones and then decide which phone i want. His reason was that the next customer woulnd't like a phone that has been opened already.

To you this might sound reasonable but then i was quite shocked. My mum has gotten her phone from this place before and she always got to look at the actal phone and test it before she bought it. another time when i wanted to buy one phone, the lady serving me took out the actual phone too! Granted, i understand pple might not like opened phones but these are perfectly new! And it;s not like i'm going to use them for a long time, i'm jsut trying to see if i can get used to the functions. Cos i wanted to get the LG phone and no way am i going to pay a few hundred dollars for a phone i don't even know if i can use.

Also, let's say i didn;t say i wanted to look at 2 phones but i just told him that i wanted to buy one phone. He would have to take it out and open the package for me to see and check the phone right? It's not reasonable for him to expect me to pay first before i can get to check the phone. So why couldn't he just have taken out the phones for me to look? I'm a seriuos buyer and it's not like i was going to walk off without buying! my guess is that he's lazy.

erm actually the salesperson won't break the seal unless you paid.

that was what my cousin working in these shops told me.

they were afraid some wanted to test test and run away with the phone. (there has been cases)

also if there is really problem with the phone even after you brought it home,

within 7 working days, you can still ask for a change of phone from them.

about wanting to test the functions,

they would expect you to already read about it on9 before you buy the phone.

FYI only (no offence)

No matter what, Customers are always right.
Even if you ask their managers ; seniors or whatever, they still need to open up and let the customer see. It's an kinda of service. And since you're the person that provides the service, you should do it.
No matter how messy ; hard ; how long to take.

FYI,
I had worked in OG Toys' department before. The parents; buyers would want to test the toys(Remote planes; cars) before they even buy it. I still remembered 1 time , that i had to take out the big helicopper, fix the batteries, do alot of things before testing it.
I admit it's fasturating, and it's worst when the customers doesn't want it. But , what can you do? You can only smile back at them and say "It's okay".

Morale of this story?
Customers are always right; If you want to be salesperson; consultans, be sure to had an positive attitude towards customers.

But you can't use this ' Customers are always right' to do whatever u wan.
customers can't abuse that. not all customers' doings are right though.

i believe they have rules. they also wish to close a deal with the customers.

I dun think it's abt e customer is always right thing la.. I think it's not unreasonable to look at 2 phones and compare b4 u buy wad.. most ppl do tt. u cant expect all customers to read e specification b4 buying aso ma.. many ppl would prefer to actually "feel" the hang of e phone b4 deciding whether to buy. I've seen much fussier customers who asked to look at phones and compare them, and they have to take out e accessories to see! for wad use to take everything out?

to say that would be totally unfair to a majority of salespersons. i do suspect it is not an easy task to balance "customer always right" and company policies. as such it is also unfair for you to use your experience in OG to judge another person in singtel.

suppose your boss made you buy that helicopter when the customers decide not to buy it as he feels opened goods are not as sellable? you will hesitate the next time you are asked to open up another toy to demo for customers.

The guy don't wanna show u the actual phone due to security reason.

Example : He shows this person a phone and someone calls for him.
He turns around and the person who is holding to the actual phone runs away.
So who will pay for the stolen phone? The salemans le. U think he will risk it meh? xD

Illidian DOWN! 9/9 BT. Die emo elf, DIE! Now drop me more T6 tokens. Duplicity!

Death comes, you can never hide from it or escape it.

Guess that,
You never worked as an sales person in Shopping centres before.
Toys are different.
As i am trying to show here, it's just an personal exprience for me to tell you guys.
Doing in sales, we learn the slogan of "Customers are always right". I think that you'll hear it anywhere else.

But what can you do at least if you ever see the customers that are unreasonable?
Talk to them polietly. Otherwise, dun expect them to patronize your shop, or even get a complain from them.

Firstly,
You gotta keep that in mind, since you're an salesperson. Customers are very valuable and important to you. And your shop's reputation is at streak.
Since you're unable to talk nicely to your customer that you are servicing to, Why would you still stay here and work?
Might as well, quit the job.

For the Singtel Hello! Shop matter. I think that, if the customer request to open the seal of the phone, and check the phone. The customer servicers should at least tell them nicely that they're unable to do so. I am sure that, they've phones that are already open. And let the customer had a look or something.

If this really dun works. They should talk nicely to the customers that they're required to pay the money first before opening the seal. Tell them that, should there be any problems, they'll glady to change to phone on spot for the customers.

I think that this should at least the minimum of what an customer servicers capable of. If you really can't talk in this tone, or dun have much patience. I can say is that, quit your job. You're not fit to be in this job.

Agree.

Not just Singtel Hello!, even M1 or starhub does the same, u pay before they break the seal for you. If you want to feel lets say the weight of the phone, they would have dummy sets. To what i know, dummy sets have all the exact physical features which means, the weight of the dummy sets would be the same as the real phone with the battery in it. On the other hand, say, if you would like to check out the functions, they would not hand the phone and tell you to browse through all the functions. Why?

Firstly, they're afraid that you'll run away with the phone.
Secondly, they're afraid that you'll change the settings of the phone thus, affecting the REAL buyer of the phone.

Even Toys 'R' Us, Kiddy Palace and Electrical appliance shops like Harvey Norman or Courts practice the same rules. Unless they have display sets that is ment for testing. Also, you won't find people in NTUC opening a packet of crackers to taste if it's nice b4 they buy right? unless there's samples.

Thus, i encourage all to always check the details of the items you're eying before going a long way to puchase it.

Also, to ensure a success deal, the sales person should also talk politely. Some sales person seriously act like they don't need this deal to survive. So screw them and don't patrionise their shops. Theres definately other outlets!
