Couple jailed, fined in counterfeit cigar case A COUPLE were sentenced to jail and fined a total of $144,000 in the first tobacco infringement case here involving counterfeit cigars.
Jacob Quek Gim Siew, 52, and his wife, Esther Goh Soo Im, 53, are out on $10,000 bail each, pending their appeal against conviction and sentence.
Quek, the manager of Cigar Affair at Furama Riverfront Hotel, was convicted of 21 charges of having more than 1,500 counterfeit Cuban cigars for sale while Goh was convicted of 23 charges, including two of having sold two boxes of fake Partagas Piramides and Cohiba Robustos limited edition cigars in August 2004.
Quek's sentence was six weeks and a $70,000 fine while Goh was given four weeks and fined $74,000.
