THEY were in a different form of race- a race to sell buy as many F1 tickets using fake credit cards and selling them off at a profit.
The couple - Leong Chee Hong, 38, and his pregnant wife Jennifer Tai, 36 - allegedly bought RM$95,000 (S$41,800) worth of F1 tickets before the law caught up with them.
Last Friday, the police raided Leong's house in Cheras,Kuala Lumpur where they found 240 cloned credit cards reported the New Straits Times (NST).
They are believed to be part of an international syndicate.
They bought tickets for the recent Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, which they later sold cheaply added the report.
CLOSE WATCH
The couple had been under the close watch of the police as the husband, Leong was arrested more than two years ago for possession of cloned credit cards and charged at the Malacca Sessions Court added the NST. The trial is ongoing.
Husband and wife were yesterday produced in court and jointly charged with possession of 37 of the 240 cards.
NST added that they claimed trial and are expected to face more charges soon.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Fuad Othman objected to bail by counsel S K Tong.
Tong argued that bail should be granted as Leong's trial in Malacca did not prove his guilt.NST reported the counsel as saying that Leong was a shoe salesman with an income of between RM$4,000 and RM$5,000 a month.
Tong said Leong was the sole breadwinner of the family and the couple had an 11-year-old son.
Judge Rosenani Abd Rahman set bail at RM$30,000 each and ordered them to surrender their passports.
