Total SGC$: 530.98 | confused over courses.. a problem that has been bugging me since o levels...
i am interested in animations, and was planning to enter nyp to take design course after o levels. but because it's a diploma, i didn't have much confidence in the prospect, so i chose jc.
jc is now a thing of the past for me. my results aren't good, but still enough for me to secure an engineering course in NTU.
but i'm planning to try to apply for Digital Animation in NTU. but because i have no talent in drawing, except for that interest in it, i fear even if i do graduate from the course, i won't have good prospects in it.
should i then, stick to a normal engineering course, and earn a stable low income in the future?
or should i learn what i'm interested in, and pray hard that i can get myself a job that line in the future...?
really confused... need help...

passion drives u to success.
don't worry about future prospects, coz if there is none of them, what will happen to the graduates of the course and other courses that is related to animation?
i believe that humans are naturally driven by passion, so trust yaself and make the correct choice.

Total SGC$: 12.00 | Re: confused over courses.. Hello there, I've asked myself that similar question before so maybe I'll shed some light on the design part. Right now, it's a year since I've graduated from NYP. I'm currently working in an animation company. From what I see now, jobs are plenty in this design industry, but its a matter of whether anyone wants to do it. You can find jobs in this line, but it might not be what you truly dream of.
I've seen my fellow schoolmates who graduated with me doing things that they don't specialise in. Some even 'pao kah liao', from concept to end product when they are hired initially just for their 3d skills. Also, the person handling your pay is not necessarily someone who knows design. You may even find that your pay isn't justified of the amount of effort put in (in both good and bad ways yes...).
And the talk about talent... There are people who didn't know how to draw do marvelous digital works within a few years. It's a question of interest and initiative, how motivated you are and how far your goals are set in this field. If you do take the design path, just constantly brush up your drawing and observation skills in the four years. It's not about talent, just how far you want to go.
I remember reading this and finding it really true: 'Don't follow your passion, just bring it with you where ever you go.' True, it's better that you do something that you are interested in, same goes for a job. If you enjoy that job, you can perform better in it.So if you are keen on making designing your rice bowl next time, think about it, will you be able to enjoy it then? For me, I like to paint and that's my job now. I don't like it forced out and dictated, cos at the end of it, I'll feel dead. Yet the process of being submerged in perfecting the artwork kept me going, hence, I'm still alive ;D. Well, that's about it from me. All the best in your choices |

If there is anything you wanna know, I'm glad to share here, though I must say that my knowledge and experience is extremely limited. All I can offer is what I've been through in this 1 short year of working, best if you seek out to hear more from both sides too. Think it through slowly |

ya, I can understand what u are gg through. I had a hard time making decisions too
but anyways, stick to your interest! I know bread and butter is essential in your everyday life, but earning it without your happiness and fulfilment will make life very meaningless and empty! I've seen many examples of both types (ie: those who went with their interests and vice versa) and I strongly sense the importance of interest.

no, i suggested double-major, not double degree. double degree is a fixed combination for NTU engineering, and i don't think animation is one of the selected courses. double degree requires good A level results as well. on the other hand, you get to choose what you want for double-major (more flexibility, i feel) and they open this for all (meaning, if A level results like shit, still can do. as long as you first major don't flunk). you just need to inform the administration that you are taking second major in the course and the modules you take are to be counted for the second major. |
