Generally, whatever sounds nice to you can already.

Things to avoid would be names which can be mispronounced by others when put together with your surname...

e.g.

If you're a girl and your surname is Chng or Chen, don't call yourself Monica...

If you're a guy with the surname of Peh... Don't call yourself Carl...

I prefer a surname that starts with "N" or "S" as "N" is the initials of my surname and "S' is the initials of my chinese name..

Yep, generally there are only 2 ways which you can search for a suitable english name for yourself - Either bookstores or websites.

For bookstores you may want to try Kinokuniya (best) and TIMES.

For websites, you may start searching through http://www.google.com

OR,

If you think the names you came across with ain't good and unique enough, you may want to change it abit here and there yourself! It's all up to you. You can create your own name, and if people mis-pronounce, correct them!

Can't help you there. Just look around to and if you find one name that you really liked, take it.
Christian name does not mean that its a must to fit with the surname.
My grandfather is named Vivian. o.0
But he had a first name. So its "something" Vivian "surname"
